Default Just ran my car at the track for first time

The Track

California Speedway in Fontana, CA
Elevation: I don't know
Something I heard: it has an upward slope

My Car

Body: 1993 Honda Civic CX
Motor: 1993 JDM B18C
Mods: APEXi filter on a stick
Tires: Kuhmo 712s 205/50/15 (front); Dunlop GT Qualifiers 195/50/15 (rear)
Exhaust: stock header, generic hi-flo cat, stock CX cat-back exhaust
Misc.: 3/4 gas tank, overdue for oil change, box in trunk with 2 12" subs, COMPLETE interior, regular street tire pressure

My Times

1st run: launched at about 3000 RPM
R/T: .790
60': 2.499
330: 6.953
1/8: 10.518
MPH: 68.58
1000: 13.599
1/4: 16.173
MPH: 88.23

2nd run: launched at about 4000 RPM
R/T: .867
60': 2.596
330: 7.046
1/8: 10.602
MPH: 69.37
1000: 13.667
1/4: 16.240
MPH: 87.34

In Comparison

My friend with a CRX (DX model) had a b16 with intake and RSR headers and he ran a 16.157(1st run) and a 15.782(2nd run). I also talked to another guy who also had an EG with a GSR, but had Skunk2 cams and a Field's ECU and he ran a 15.1; his second run I don't know what he ran.

In Conclusion

I think if I took out everything in my car(the box, rear seats and passenger seat), had a fresh change of oil, ran with at least maybe a 1/4 tank(instead of 3/4), and lowered my tire pressure up front, I think I can at least run somewhere in the 15s. O yea, and also werk on my R/T. I wans't really prepared to run at the track that day(no tools, no spare ), but I just wanted to run just for fun. Cool thing when I went there was that I met Oscar Jackson. He was running a supercharged 'lude but he said it wasn't his car. He said he ran a 14.1, but he said that car has ran a 13.9 before. But anyways, I just wanted to post this and see if I can get any feedback. TIA

get some slicks, i had almost the same setup as you minus the weight of the box and other crap on some 20x6x14 M/T's and i ran a 14.06 @96 mph, you have lots of room for improvement

Let me get this straight. You have an EG/EH Hatch, with a JDM b18c1 motor, and 712 kumho supra ecsta tires and you ran 16's????

Not to be a dick but that really sucks. You shouldn't be in the 15's, you should be in the 14's the way you are right now. And with lower air pressure and without the system you should be in the low 14's. and definately high 13's with a dumped header.

I have a DX (heavier) with a usdm b18c1 (less hp) and with a stock dx intake, stock ls header (crushed), stock cat, stock dx exhaust and muffler I ran 14.70@94mph. After adding kumho 711 tires to 16" wheels, an i/e/h combo, and a skunk2 intake manifold I ran 13.91@99.

yeah there is room for improvement man. Be positive, it was your first time, and work on that reaction time.

slooowdx is right, you need slicks at a track to get a good track time. A street compound will do nothing on a dragstrip, the compound is all wrong. Don't get discouraged, with that setup, you should be in the 14's with slicks.

Actually..don't worry about ur reaction time....it has nothing to do with ur time. Instead...concentrate on getting better 60 ft times

i run 16.3 with 128 FWHP and some 2360 LBS

you sound system alone will take of some 0,2 or 0,3 sec. i know !! i tryed !! ;-)

Yeah...dont feel bad dude. Im sure with some more practice those times can come way down. Track elevation has a ton to do with it as well, so Im sure alot of it has to do with that. Good luck

back like 2 years ago almost with a d15b7..stock height..stock everything 93 dx coupe..i ran at pomona for fun..i did 16.2's at 84mph all day.that was on some 175 70 13s' or whatever they come with.. im not flaming..just stating that theres gotta be something u r doing wrong maybe or u need to correct? r u finding the right rpm to launch at for YOU and YOUR car? (throwing how well your tires grab?)

im in corona..not too far from fontana..i dont think its elevation would have that much effect on your car.. okay palmdale makes like .5 slower times, so i doubt fontana is as high as palmdale..or maybe it is.but a b18c cx or dx or whatever hatch u have should be well in the mid high 14s at pomona..and low low low 15s at a place with elevation.hows the condition of the motor?was it burning hot outside with a intake sitting in the engine bay? i dunno just offering some suggestions

edit: im lookin at your mph...with traction/60 foot those r at least 15 second mph's in a set up like yours

You dont need slicks. I would laugh at you if you pulled up with slicks to run a 14. I think it'll just come with practice. I ran 15.1 with my '00 Si on street tires not drag radials with i/h/e (now its supercharged) and I have a few friends that got into the 14's with bolt-ons (same car). You mentioned it was your first time, it just takes practice. Get used to the way the car feels at launch, and figure out where the best RPM's are for you to launch without too much wheel spin or without bogging. Practice practice practice.

I hate 1/4 mile posts more and more each day because it's really hard to compare runs at the strip you ran at to all of the other times we've seen/ran elsewhere under totally different conditions.

Normally I'd say and follow it up with "don't anyone criticize the times because you are used to seeing better times" because you weren't there running the car in question at the strip in question, BUT:

16.1?

That sounds like a run with mad wheelspin and a mis-shift of some sort. No matter what conditions I would think low 15's should be well within reach on a PROPERLY RUNNING B18C1 swap in a CX hatch.

I'll spare you telling what my 1992 Si ran with B18C1 because again, we weren't at the same track on the same day, but I can tell you that 16's are extremely slow for your set-up IF the car is running good.

Is it hitting VTEC? Ever had it dynoed? Just curious, as I'm sure most others here are too.

Don 't be pissed at my post - I'm trying to help even if it seems a tad assholish.

Yea, your motor is nine years old. Maybe something's wrong with the motor? I think the elevation there is bad cause seeing your friends' setups, I think they should be hitting better times too.
My friend with a bone stock B16 motor in his stripped 93 CX hit a 14.6.

i havent been to the race track in Fontana but i go to Palmdale about twice a month and i see a lot of disapointing times. I've seen coupes w/ b16a hit high 17's.

My friend has a 00 SI, he has the basics bolt-ons(I/H/E) and some internal parts.
he's hitting low 15's at Palmdale and was hitting mid 14's at Fontana. peace

Thanks for all the replies guys. I'm not really dissappointed because I didn't expect much because I wasn't really prepared to run that day. Some things I forgot to mention:

1. I have a CEL that I have yet to find out what code it is.
2. It was hot as hell out there; the degree I don't know.
3. 3rd gear grinded each run so that never went smoothly.

As for the motor itself, yes it is nine years old, but I know it is very healthy because I got it from a 1993 JDM GSR front clip. So I didn't put in an already-pulled-out motor into my car. And yes, VTEC does work. I'm guessing the CEL is from something that I didn't plug correctly or didn't plug in the right place or whatever.

Out of all the replies I have seen no one has made a remark about the other hacth that I mentioned in my post. The hatch with the GSR motor, Skunk2 cams, Field's ECU and i/h/e and was also on Azenis that ran a 15.1 on his first run. What do you guys think of that? Maybe it was just his first run but to run only a second faster than me with all that he had confuses me. Also forgot to mention that there was an EK with USDM Type-R motor w/CTR pistons, AEM intake, and Blitz cat-back exhaust that ran a 14.1. What do you guys think of that?

On another note, I got to meet that owner of the JRSC'd 'lude that Oscar Jackson was driving that I mentioned in my first post. I met him and Doug (Hondata) at Norm Reeves Honda in Cerritos today (I was late for raffles and stuff). That car ran like a 13.8 with JSRC, i/h/e, Hondata, and drag radials.

Good Job.

There is room for improvement.

I have 92 CX hatch with 95 USDM B18C1.

My first times at the track were 15.5 and best of 15.1. The heat and humidity in TX may have been contributing factors but maybe the best one was that I am still a rookie at it and my reaction times werent that great either.

I also ran with a 12" sub/box in my hatch.
