Then don't you think you need to get a new one? If you ran overheated for a long while your whole engine could be done.

BTW, The rules state you have to list all pertinent car details so we know what car we're dealing with.

With that kind of overheating, your head gasket is gone, your head is warped, your block is probably damaged, your entire cooling system is fucked, and you should probably use this as a chance to put an entire new motor in the car. The cost for a working Y8 is going to be less than the cost of getting yours working properly again.

Is there a way to see if my head gasket is blown with out taking it all apart?

A conclusive and definitive way? No. A leakdown test is a formality at this point.

lisle tool part number 75500

checks for exhaust gasses in coolant. that would tell you if it has a blown HG

It could still be fine, depending on how long it was overheating and how hot it got. If you just noticed it when it was at like 3/4 and the steam was coming out, you're probably fine. If it had been overheated for a while, in the red, and THEN your radiator blew, yeah you might be f'd.

I was under the impression that if you overheat a engine badly even once, cylinders will be out of round. Swap sounds like a better investment in the long run.

not the cyl's that go first(if at all) never heard of that but the HG goes first then either the head or block or in some cases both.

X2

Probably a big crack in the radiator is what leaked out all your fluid in the first place. So no surprise it blew to pieces.....

Junkyard radiator, a garden hose.....uh, maybe a hose or clamp or two here or there, fill er up with water and start it. If it runs you're on the right track. And you should be able to tell pretty quickly whether it idles like s.... Or not.

It's a good chance to test your diagnostic procedures...or perhaps your wallet opening procedures, depending on your situation...

Are you really...someone please tell me he didn't...

What? If your advice is "use a garden hose and some water", every sensible member of this forum is going to agree with me in saying stop. Just stop right now.

Lol @ garden hoses idea they'd have to be some pretty BIG hoses to even fit the rad and stat housings don't think they'd even hold up to the heat of the coolant. that was just dumb to suggest that

If the engine is out of the car and still all together, its hard to tell how much abuse it has been put through.
