just need some reassurance before i buy...
most of you wont know me here, but ive been on honda-tech for a while.... anyway, i just parted out my 90 integra about 3 months ago and bought a 00 Nissan Xterra, now after about 2 months of owning it, i cant stand the gas mileage and how boring it is to own an SUV (not to mention $280/month).... so now im trying to trade it in and get a 96-98 civic (ek right? or ej? whatever)... anyway, i was really wanting a g3 integra, but its just not working financially for me..... so all i need to know is that this civic i buy is truly a decent platform for me to build on and not just an APC and other **** magnet like im fearing...... so far ive had an 87 prelude si, a 94 original VTEC del sol with an sir-II swap, and a 90 integra with a b20b and other goodies...... am i stepping down going with the regular ol' civic??? im planning for boost, so at least it will be fast if nothing else..... just give me some reassurance here!!!

All honda's are good platforms....You can swap whatever (almost) into whatever. Just get the honda that you feel is comfortable and clean AND reliable THEN worry about upgrades. Thats my thought anyway.

yes civic is a good platform. Honestly i felt the same way as you. I owned a 94 si vtec prelude, 94 integra gsr, and now i'm at a 92 civic cx which i bought for 1000. Beside this is the only way i'm gonna go fast for a good price and get good result. Trust me after a motor swap, turbo, or whatever setup you would like you'll love it. And add some good suspension and you'll be set

That would be an ej, correct, like I have.
Do you plan on buying this civic with the stock single cam motor? Think about whether or not you wanna go single cam boost, or swap a b series (then boost), etc. Its only a decent platform if you think it is- I mean... you work with what you got right? Have you given any thought to buying a 96 teg or something like that?
Browse the forced induction forum, there are plenty of d series turbo guys on here. One of which I know is very happy with his car
Good luck!
Oh and regular ol' civics dont put APC parts on themselves you know Its the owners!

Re: just need some reassurance before i buy... (8200RPM)
96 teg is just out of my price range... the problem is that im stuck having to go through a dealer as my credit is not very well established and ive only had my Xterra for 2 months..... when i got the Xterra it took going through 16 different lenders, so now i have 15 inquiries on there..... so when i went to apply for a loan to get a teg, i couldnt......im forced to trade in the Xterra and lose money on that, on top of paying extra for whatever civic or integra i can get...... i cant take the risk of selling the Xterra myself and not getting financing after i sell it, b/c i have no cash to put down now..... so it looks like i can spend about $6000-$7000 on whatever civic or integra i can find, and i have only found 1 integra that was a 5 speed and they wouldnt budge on the price...... anyway, i figure i can get a lower mileage civic with a 5 speed and have lower payments and lower insurance
sorry for the run on
i like the looks of the ej coupes, so ill just go with that....... i may just boost the single cam for the time being, and build another motor on the side..... more than likely just a sleeved b18 to 84mm and ill have all the FI stuff ready when the motor is.

why dont you look into buying a shell. you can find a teg shell for cheaper then that, and then just drop the motor you want. Or if you going for a civic it would be better to buy a shell for like 1000 or something and drop the rest into suspension and then motor.
