Just joined the ranks of a dented 4-1 (vent)
Well, the night has been nice and cool and the car was running excellent with the cold weather (not common here in Texas). Well as I dropped my friend off at his girl's to head home I had to slow down over those giant squares they put as speed bumps. Went over it nicely and accelerated only to see a manhole cover, slow over it but for some reason it had a hump in front of it and dented the **** outta my header I'm pissed and had to vent, sorry for the topic. Those with dented JDM 4-1's- I feel your pain

And to top it off he broke mad shiot at the track. If you read this Mark...Sorry .

sorry to hear.
that is rough!
you gotta avoid that stuff, even make sure to drive one wheel over the high spot so the header is farther off the ground instead of denting it

I told Mark that his 4-1 was in grave danger when he asked me how I liked mine.
My 4-1 sits higher than most though because my car probably sits higher than most. My DC JDM 4-1 got scraped (not dented thank God!) at the dragstrip on the shorty slicks after my clutchfork broke because I couldn't stop the car and I HAD to get it off the driveway. The drop to the grass was not a gradual one - thus the scraping.
How'd Mark run anyways? Did Matt go?
Sucks to hear that **** Phil! At least you still have your bodywork in flawless condition, right? I'm on bumper #3 in less than one freaking year!

If you hit something hard enough, sure, your header wont get dented but isn't there a chance that all that force be transferred directly into your head? I think I would rather dent a $350 header then damage a $1200 head.

i think the brackets the plate is bolted to would break first, also if you are hitting that on a regular basis, there is something wrong, raise up your car a little or get stiffer spring rates, i believe this is a safe gaurd not a solution for other problems, i have not hit my skid plate yet, but it is there and is ready for action if absolutly needed

Re: Just joined the ranks of a dented 4-1 (ill phil)
i dented my 4-1 after hitting a boulder while driving the n.ga mtns over the summer. driving too fast to avoid rock the size of a bowling ball. i was luck that i only damaged the header. couple inches to either side and i was losing tranny or oil pan. stinks when you damage header like that.
