well i just got it today and i popen it up and find that is missing 2 chips!
wtf!
what do they do?
do i even need them?
where can i get some replacements or should i kick the guy who sold it to me ***

those 2 that you have outlined look like the ones added when chipping an ecu.... not a stock set of chips.

i can't remember but i could've swore where you put the aftermarket chips was in the lower right hand side instead of the lower left hand side. too lazy to pull out my p28 and check.

Judging from the picture that ecu has been chipped (that appears to be a socket in the lower right hand corner). Many ecu's do not come with an external rom, so it's not like you need that chip anyway. Check for J1 right next to the chip. You must add a jumper there in order to use an external rom, and if that jumper has been cut, it restores the ecu to stock (which I am guessing they did before they sold it to you.)
Anyway, if that is the case, it will just be simpler when you decide to chip your ecu, because you will already have everything.

btw, looking back at that picture, I'm almost positive someone has chipped it, and I think that the jumper is still in tact. If so, just cut it and you'll be back to stock.

Yes... that ecu was "Chiped". But the chip has been removed. the little chip starting with 74 is a latch for the Eprom. the socket is to install an Eprom with a coustom program on it. all you have to do is remove the jumper thats between the socket and the prossesor and it will read the stock P28 program again. if you go up on http://www.ecucontrol.com it will explane what to do.


that transistor that's popped... I think thats for the auto trans lock up or to engage the AC... but I don't remember for shure. I would have to check my notes at home.

either way... it's an ECU that some one has fucked with... and is damaged... that's why it was sold. I wouldn't be suprised if it can be repared at all. sorry.

yea a chip goes there. buy a chip off of ebay for 20 bucks or email someone who has uberdata and they can make a chip for your set up. put a ZIF. in there with the chip and you are good to go.

if u drop 85 bucks you can get a chip burner and burn your own chips for your car chips are 6 bucks each.

by the way hondata ecu look the same way.
