JDM ZC Sohc non vtec into 00 EX Auto
So as a replacement for my knocking 13 year old d16y8 that isn't sounding so reliable anymore, I decided to look into a 96-99 spec ZC non vtec. My question is, since it'd be a direct bolt in and plug and play swap just without vtec. Which ecu would I use for this + a d16y8 auto?

Exactly which ZC are you looking at? The non vtec DOHC, or the non vtec SOHC?
As far as I can tell from some Googling and reading, an auto P28 would be your second best choice behind the proper JDM ECU, assuming you're looking at the non-v DOHC.

The non vtec sohc, which is why I think a d16y7 ecu would probably work.

Do you have emissions testing? If so you have two choices:
- Swap the D16Y8 head on to your new ZC block and keep the stock ECU
- Use a P2E ECU and swap the transmission for an automatic D16Y7 unit. (the D16Y8 trans has a different 3rd gear ratio that throws a P0715 code when used with a P2E ECU)

I live in Indiana so emissions isn't a problem at all, but ok i'll look into finding an automatic D16Y7 trans, and probably go that route. Will everything else just be bolt in plug and play?

The only information I can find online about the SOHC non-v ZC is that it's an ancient motor. As in, carbed ancient. I'd love to see some shots of this motor.

This is the one I was looking at as a cheap replacement, as I love this car and won't be selling it for a long time. http://www.hmotorsonline.com/shop/sc...age&item=30023

If your engine came from a manual run a Y8 IM and throttlebody.
There were several different versions. The one the OP has is the non-vtec OBD2 version. Basically Y7 with a Y8 IM and exhaust manifold.
