Default JDM DC 4-1 header....Is it worth the money.....

Well im gettin a 97 spec b18CR and that pretty much taps all my cash.... and I was wondering if its worth the extra money to get the JDM 4-1 header....or if it will be okay with just the stick header that comes witht the engine? I mean can i do without it and just get it later? or is it a must?

Thanks

The 4-1 would be better for performance, but you'll be fine with the stocker, until you can afford the upgrade.

I own a B18C5 swap and I purchased a DC JDM 4-1 header for it. I'm glad I got it, but...

Don't think you can just get away with the price of the header. Since it's 2.5'' you'll also need to have someone fab up a 2.5'' adapter to your cat, or better yet, get a 2.5'' cat while you're at it. It's pontless to go 2.5'' unless you also swap out that small stock cat as well.

I'd say install the swap with the O.E manifold at first, and then when you can afford the header, cat, and labor then go for it.

Are you getting a clutch? I'd get a good clutch before any sort of intake, header, or exhaust. Replace the clutch before the engine goes in or you'll regret that you did not.

8-10 with a DC 4-1 isn't likely.

Oh yeah since I've got the DC JDM 4-1 I'll say that the claim quoted is total bullshit.

I wasn't trying to argue or flame you man, it's just that I've seen DC 4-1's dyno'd on a variety of set up's and motors, and have never seen an 8-10hp increase. I have one on my car now, and it didn't make anywhere close to 8-10. Every motor is different, I wish you luck, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

yeah you should change the clutch in the motor while its out cause it will be alot easier, its true you dont know hhow the person who had the engine before you drove. it will save a headache if you find out the clutch is bad after the motor is installed in your car

wow, how long did you have the header on before the check engine light started coming on? i had the jdm itr header and 2.5 cat and never had a check engine light for the 4.5 months that it was on my car. i was forewarned before i installed it that I would get one, but i never did.

The JDM ITR 4 -1 is not 2.5? I have one and it seems to be 2.5.

How are you going to tell me that the DC 4-1 is good for 8whp when I've installed one on my car and only picked up 2 peak whp? Yes it helped in the midrange for sure, but as far as peak numbers go it wasn't near 8whp. Midrange and "area under the curve" are definately more important than peak, but the DC JDM 4-1 ain't worth 8whp peak from my own personal experience owning it.

Care to argue against that?
