Default JDM Cluster backlighting brightness issues

Alright, here's another post about the dim JDM cluster. I can't believe it's this dim. I can barely see it. It's no good. I swapped all the USDM bulbs and the USDM circuit sheet, and now the lights are controlled from the dimmer, but they aren't any brighter. I have searched far and wide for information about this, and everyone likes to wonder and BS, but nobody has any real solutions. Any REAL ideas on making it brighter?

Thanks,
zeleftikam (zelifcam)

Tape a flashlight to your dash.

Or deal with it.

That's exactly the type of crap I was talking about when I said I searched far and wide on honda-tech and all I get are answers like that.

What do you mean deal with it? It is impossible that it is normal for them to be this dim. If so, Honda is the most ridiculous car company in the world. I can barely see them at all at night. How do I make them brighter?

Just change out the bulbs to amber in your usdm cluster if you don't want to deal with the dimness. Honestly I don't think theres any way to make it any brighter.

Another non-solution. My USDM cluster is broken. That's why I have this one.

Wondering if anyone has tested the voltage of the USDM dash lights. The JDM cars dont have the dimmer but ours do, I wonder if our lights see a true 12 volts from the dimmer. Would be worth checking into bypassing the dimmer. losing a few volts would make the lights pretty dim.

Did you remove the blue condoms from the USDM bulbs? If not it makes the cluster light up alot dimmer for some stupid *** reason.

yeah, the condoms are off. I find it extremely hard to believe that this is as bright as Honda intended to make the clusters. There are dark spots in it and it's barely visible. I'll check on the supply voltage tomorrow; perhaps giving it 12v will help (and melt the bulb holders even more)

my jdm cluster isn't that dim i replaced all the really small bulbs with new ones and the other little larger bulbs with some larger bulbs i think they were actually 168/194 bulbs like from a sidemarker liscense plate but there are actually larger bulbs that will fit in the stick cluster slot

(8:36 PM 4/22/2004) realies: sorry to see that your cluster doesn't dim
i have a jdm itr cluster in my ej and everything works fine
the dimmer too
i can give you some things to check if you like
(9:44 PM 4/22/2004) 137: cool point them out lol.
(1:43 AM 4/23/2004) realies: there are two wire that your cluster uses to dim
a red and a red/black
look and see where they are in regard to the stock cluster locations
then follow the plastic on your rs cluster and then move the pins
two things my jdm cluster dims so i know yours will
two switching from dx to ex or ls to gsr or usdm to jdm commonly because of year or model the gas wire is im th3e wrong place
once you follow the plastic on the back of a guage cluster and you realise what does what and how the plastic works you can almost put any cluster into into any car
please pm me if this does not make sense
i've had a few but i know i can fix your problem
(7:57 AM 4/23/2004) 137: cool ill check it out man.
(8:52 PM 4/23/2004) realies: let me know what happens
