I found this 1995 Honda Civic EK4 SIR VTEC at a japanese website and wanted to know how do you register it in US and drive it here? does anyone have any ideas on the procedures and steps and also the cost? is it legal to drive RHD? THANKS

You have to know the right people and go through some loopholes in the registration process.

There are shadier ways to do it, but don't ask anyone to help you with it or tell you what they are.

The best thing to do is to buy it, import it as a "parts" car, and then transfer everything you want into the car of your choice (a 97-99 DAP hatch, I would assume).

I was planning on keeping the whole car and just driving it. I mean ive seen alot of people buying RHD cars or converting them..

Plans are nice. Finding a way to do it legally, that's the tricky part.

I know of one loop hole, but it only works for cars manufactured 15 years earlier to the month (so if you were to do it right now, it'd be January of 1992).

You can legally import and register a car in canada that way, and then have the person who it is registered to sell it to someone else in the USA.

Yo seriously? wow thats some sht right there... Is it really hard to get is straight here in US.. ALOT fo people on this site are driving a RHD car.. i dont get it..

From what ive heard, its a very long process to legalize it and also costs thousands of dollars. If i were to buy a foreign civic, i would import it and swap vins from the civic that i already have and just say it has a RHD conversion. Yes if you swap the vins the right way you wont be able to tell.

From what ive read, its not practical and if you have the money to throw down for it you wouldnt be legalizing a jdm civic, atleast i wouldnt be.

if you have access to a dealer's license you can slap dealer plates on it and drive it right then, fully registered and insured with no problems

off topic.......is that the low pressure AC line that goes beside the TIMING BELT area?

I thought all civics even RHD ones, had the same setup as we do where the low press a/c line goes down below the radiator and to the frame rail by the passenger headlight??

yeah, that's AC. Think about it. Everything on the firewall is backwards. Blower motor and glove box are on that side too... OOOOH! Freaky Jedi mind tricks.....

ive heard that for it to be legally registered everything has to be DOT approved. so you would have to redo all your brakes, windows, headlights, pretty much all the glass, doors have to be reinforced and all kinds of other ****, all those parts have DOT labels stamped on them somewhere... so i would import the car to the US buy a USDM EK4 shell and swap everything over, probably easiest, cheapest way to do..... this is just my opinion

Nope, both lines go beside the timing belt on the rhd cars.
