Hey all,

here's the deal. Just the other day I noticed a steady rattling/chattering sound coming from the area near the power steering pump/pully area. As I was driving, I noticed that the frequency was consistent with the engine rpms.

I popped open the hood and tried to pinpoint the sound. definitely not coming from the engine head. It's more in the vicinity to the right of the engine but couldn't narrow it down.

The sound is kinda like when you would place a stick against the spoke of a bicycle wheel... so I'm thinking something is rubbing against a pulley or belt?

I tried to take off the top timing belt cover but couldn't get it off (2 bolts came off but then couldn't get the cover off).

Any insight before I take it to the dealer?

btw, my car is a 98 EX with a d16y8.

Could this sound be caused by loose belts?
