intake manifold swap!!!
hey i have a 95 civic hatch cx with a d15b jspec motor i had the cx intake manifold on the engine but i just put on a d16y8 intake manifold i had a couple of problems 2 hoses didnt match i had to use the injectors from the cx manifold and the throttle cable had problems matchin up and one of the sensors was different on each manifold i believe it was the ait sensor but i have a resistor in my iat plug so it didnt matter but now everything is hooked up but i feel like i lost torque and i have a jumpy idol it doesnt do it all the time but it jumps from 1100 to 1400 up and down up and down any ideas on what it might be? the only good thing so far is that when i hit 5000 rpms the engine keeps roarin on b4 it would dwindle down from lack of air!

Re: intake manifold swap!!! (northkai3)
Did you recheck all of your vacuum lines?
Did you plug up the cruise control line on the bottom of the manifold?
What did you do about the IACV? Use the one from the Y8 manifold, or use the one from the D15B? Is it on the throttle body or the back of the manifold?
Any CEL's?
What ECU are you using?

only 2 hoses didnt match athin vacuum hose on the back of the manifold and a hose in the front that ran to a sensor on the fuel rail

Re: intake manifold swap!!! (northkai3)
on the cx manifold the thin vacuum hose wasnt hooked up so i left it that way but the other hose in the front i found a hose that was on the cx that wasnt on the d16y8 so i plugged that hose into the origin of the hose from the cx

Re: intake manifold swap!!! (northkai3)
i was throwin 2 cel's previous to installing manifold so i have to run it again
im throwin a cel for the o2 sensor which has to be changed to a 2 wire o2 sensor and for the vtec because its not hooked up yet

There's your problem. Vacuum leak. The small nipple on the driverside at the back of the manifold is the cruise control. JB weld that shut. The hose in the front runs from one of the nipples on the front to the black sensor on the fuel rail and then back to the carbon canister.

Re: intake manifold swap!!! (chowmien)
i took care of the hose that runs through the sensor but what is the sensor is it the iat sensor because there are only 4 sensors on the manifold and the only plug not plugged in was the iat but so instaed of sweatin it i just plugged one of those resistor thingys in there and its supposed to tell ur ecu that ur intake is a certain temperature

I'm on the hunt for a better throttle cable bracket myself. Let me know if you find anything.
I'm having a whole other issue myself. Doesn't want to go under boost at all. Gonna change the plugs and map sensor when I get home.
Oh as far as the idel mine did the same thing so I just turned down the idle on the car. Turn it clock wise til it gets to around 800 rpm.

On the y8 fuel rail the black sensor with two vacuum ports is the egr valve or something I think. The IAT is different and you have to mount that into the intake arm if you use the y8 manifold.

Yes it should unless you have another vacuum leak too.

Re: intake manifold swap!!! (chowmien)
what does the egr sensor do and how come there wasnt one previously on the cx manifold? also how would i mount the iat sensor?

Re: intake manifold swap!!! (northkai3)
wouldnt thw iat sensor be hard to mount? can i just mount it into my intake piping? or just leave the resistor in it? and what is the egr valve?

Re: intake manifold swap!!! (northkai3)
I'm having trouble following what you're saying, are you asking what should be done about your iat sensor? Isn't there a little space in the intake hose for you to just pop that crap in? That may only be for obd2..........
Does your obd1 iat sensor bolt to the back of the intake manifold originally? You could just visit autozone and pick up a crappy "spector" intake pipe and filter and that has a space to stick the iat in.
<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by chowmien »</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">On the y8 fuel rail the black sensor with two vacuum ports is the egr valve or something I think. That sensor is the EVAP purge control solenoid valve (taken out of helms), I have no idea what it does, but it goes to the charcoal canister and is for emissions.
And your jumping idle could either be from incorrect vacuum hose connection or from not plugging that cruise control nipple..........

Re: intake manifold swap!!! (northkai3)
You need to find some way to mount the IAT sensor on the intake piping, or rather in the intake piping so it can measure the incoming air.
You need to plug that small thin vacuum line on the bottom of the manifold. That's for cruise control. If you leave the hose there without it being plugged up you will get an erratic idle. You can JB Weld it shut, or I just put a screw in the end.

Re: intake manifold swap!!! (******)
ok i understand the iat sensor and the vacumm hose problems i just dont understand the sensor on the fuel rail will it do anything if its not plugged in?
