Intake louder than exhaust..
ok some of you have heard me say this b4 about my intake bein WWWAAAAYYYY louder than my exhaust....and vtec engages REALLY weird..see i had it jump time on me acouple of weeks ago well i got it fixed and it ran good but still didnt run right...(i know this will sound like im a noobie but its the only way i can describe it) like when i went into vtec b4 when i first got the car the intake was LOUD and the exhaust would go quiet so i was like well maybe the cat is clogged up..gutted it converted to obd1 made no diff just made the exhaust WAAAYYY deep
..well it jumped timed (here recently) got it fixed..but this time the intake was quiet and the exhaust got alil louder and to a side note im runnin a Greddy Evo2 cat-back with a gutted cat with a dc sports header and aem short ram intake...i mean my exhaust should be pretty damn loud but its kinda quiet and sounds good but quiet...i've had ALOT of b-series vtec motors and everyone i have ever had has never did this.
i've never had a b series (vtec) have the intake bein louder than the exhaust and the exhaust not pop or change it tone when vtec engages..ALSO sometimes when i stop to just kick it from a 5k rpm kick it'll ball *** and when i hit 2nd it'll make this funny sound and the intake will get LOUD as hell...i have been tryin to fix this problem now for 8months....im startin to woder if i may have a burnt valve, bent valve, warped cam SOMETHIN..if u kno how to fix this please let me kno ASAP this is REALLY stressin me out...

My friend's car was like this he had a short ram and rsr exhaust though. After i took a test drive and i was like "damn!! your intake is louder than you exhaust."
Doesn't really help you but same situation.

exhaust is on the same side as your header, intake the same side as your intake, not to be mean, take with a grain of salt, but you have like 1200+ posts and you dont know that?
check your timming again
ps, do you have cam gears/ throwing codes/lose of hp compared to the other b's youve owned?

Re: (EM1_)
ok explain a little better, is your intake overly loud, or is your exhaust unormally quite, or both?, also is it like bogging or, just give us a play by play of how your loosing power, my friend bottemed out his dc header and smashed it almost closed once and his got quit but im sure youve checked that, how is the throttle response from ingear and out of gear? trying to help you out dude, but its like 2am hear so i might go to bed, ill check back in the morning or like in 5 min

the car pulls hard till vtec engages then just sounds like its revin out...and yes its both....also sometimes if u run the a/c for awhile and cruise then turn it off at a stock sign and then get on it..vtec will kick in PERFECT and the exhaust will pop likes its suppose to but when u hit 2nd and get to 8k its like bbbllllAAAAAAHHHHH and intake gets loud again..

Re: (addiction2bass)
My intake has always been loud and the tone does change throughout the rpm and gears. With a huge increase in 2nd around 3 grand and in 3rd up to about 2,500. However never had a loss of power

Re: Intake louder than exhaust..
Ok, I know this is a really dumb question....but I just bought a '95 Honda civic ex (sohc vtec). How do you know if the vtec is kicking in or not? I just took my civic to my home town, about 350 miles one way, and the exhaust was super loud at about 75 mph/3200-3400 rpm and up. I got dc headers, thermal cat-back(I think it's a cat-back, might be a full exhaust), and a cold air(not short ram). Sorry to be posting a question in your post EM1_.
Did you check you filter to make sure you don't have any big holes in it(don't know if that would make a diffrence..).

Re: Intake louder than exhaust.. (eXcelonTypeR)
Whens the last time you cleaned the filter and did an oil change?
Do a compression/leakdown test.
I know it's ricey, but you should temporarily hook up a light to your VTEC solenoid to make sure it's working when you're rowing through the gears.

Re: (EM1_)
I'd say fuel filter next, but if everything's working all the way through 1st then there shouldn't be a problem with 2nd.
Are you running an OBD-1 or OBD-2 ECU?
If OBD-2 the motor might be pulling timing.
Is the timing on the dizzy good? Any chance the timing belt jumped a tooth?
Cap & rotor in good condition?
