Default Instrument Panel (Trunk Light) Problem

Hey Guys,

First of all, I have a 1997 Honda Civic Hatch. Anyways, this past week my Trunk Light on the Instrument Panel started to come and go at different times. I may be driving or sometimes I'm completly not moving and it comes on then goes off - The Map Light (Ceiling Light) turns on and off when the Trunk Light on the Instrument Panel comes on and off (I have it set to Door). Well, I checked the Instrument Panel connectors and they are all connected properly. I also checked the Hatch's Trunk sensor cable, the one that's connected to the lock for the latch and its connected and I dont see any problems with it.

Does any one know what else it could be? I have no idea and its annoying to see the Trunk Light come on and off while I'm driving as well as the Map Light when the Trunk Light comes on. Any help would be appreciated ... I dont know what else it could be ... Any guesses? LMK ... Thanks.

sounds like you have a faulty trunk trigger.

Sounds more like a wiring problem to me. The trunk light only comes on when the circuit is grounded. The circuit can either be grounded through the trunk latch (this is normal operation), or when the insulation is rubbed off the wire and it contacts the body of the car. Follow the harness from the driver's side kick panel back to the hatch area (it goes inside the door sill then up by the driver's side of the back seat) and make sure the wire isn't contacting the body anywhere.

I had this same problem, except my map light wouldn't go on too...just the trunk light. I checked the sensor for the hatch, and it seemed fine. I was about to check my wiring and then one day it just stopped. haha.
