Default If I Do A Swap...

I am on the edge of deciding whether or not to do a swap between my d16z6 into a b16a. I would rather do a b18c1 but I dont have the money...

When I first start up the b16 and take it for a test drive will I be amazed at the difference between the stock d16z6? Or is it just a minimal difference?

You will notice it up top, will pull harder. I am not a fan of b16, but they are still nice little motors. I say keep your current motor and save for a 1.8. I always say, 1.6 is nice, but 1.8 is nicer

I would save your money for the C1...you will be much more satisfied in my opinion.

The difference will not be mind blowingly different. The b16 will pull harder for obvious reasons...but it wont like amaze you on how different it is. Dont be afraid of the swap though..it is worth it in my opinion. btw..what car do you drive?

Its a 93 EX Coupe.

This is my plan for the summer, I make 4 grand.

Suspension, Wheels w/tires, and get moldings and lip painted.

How much do you think I will have left after that? Not enough for a swap I think.

So then if you guys suggest it save up for a b18c1 and swap that prob my mid to late winter and ill be set.

A little beside the point, but you might consider taking that $4k and getting a B18C1 right away. Then you can buy suspension, wheels/tires, etc. when you make extra money. I always think it's better to get the most expensive stuff out of the way first. Just think about it: Is it easier to save up $4k for an engine, or to save $1000 for wheels/tires?

But that's just a suggestion.

If you do decide to go with a B16, the difference won't be mind blowing. It'll feel like your car until 5000 rpm, since the torque on the two engines (D16Z and B16A) is pretty much the same.

the ONLY thing I love about the B16 is the close tranny.

I pulled my buddy's VX with a B16 in it yesteray, and I'm all motor D16Z6...basically stock. But top of 3rd he started to pull me, and then he was gone. If I had a hybrid tranny..it'd be close

Alright im going b18c1 then. My complaint about my d series is torque so if the b18c1 has it then ill go for that.

Will getting the LSD tranny make a difference? What exactly is LSD anyways, I know it stands for Limited Slip Differential but what does it do?

Get the LSD tranny if you can.

Limited slip differentials keep your inner tire from smoking itself to death on hard corners.

it allows for power to be distributed to both wheels at the same time, but allowing for one wheel to spin faster(outside wheel) than the inside wheel.

Hence, "limited"....where as POSI(positive) is equal distribution to both no matter what

if its daily driver the lsd is practically pointless...ive finally realized that

if youre going to be doing a lot of auto-x then it would be worth the extra hundreds

Ive got another idea...

If I were to buy a b16 and build it up would it be worth it? I mean new cams, pistons, valves, springs, etc... Would I save money and make more power compared to buying the b18c1.

NO. If you are already limited with funding, why would you dump money into building up a b16? Save your money and go for the B18C1..

I have a 2000 SI, trust me, go with the 18C1..

Have you considered going with a b18b? Cheaper than both the b16a and b18c1.

No.

You would spend more money and still not have as much torque. I say, either get the B18C1, or turbo your current engine.

If you don't like the torque of the 1.6 SOHC, then get something at least 1.8L...be it VTEC or non-VTEC.
