Idle Problem,Electrical???
ive got a 99 SI, heres my problem
the previous owner had a shroud on the battery with grounds going everywhere on the engine ,i took them off and my car started idling differently, it was idling up and down between 1000-1500 then it threw an IAVC code so i adjusted the idle screw it was bit loose, the MAP sensor and TPS sensor both have a wire with a really crappy soldering job(for what reason i dont know ) i noticed whenever i reset my ecu it ran much better but it still surges. After 10 minutes of driving, it throws on the same code and runs like complete **** ,it stays around 1500 and when i shift gears and let off the clutch the car kicks and jumps a little.I also am confused as to why when i took the extra grounds off why it started to do this.
im going to search how to check for vac leaks, and i ordered a new gasket for the throttle body comes on monday im just wondering maybe it could be electrical ,bad sensors ,i want to know what you guys think until i get my gasket and clean the throttle body and or when i get new seonsors ,this is my DD so possibly you guys can figure this one out since i have to wait until monday for the gasket.
Thanks
Brian

Very true. my 95 has about 6 hooked up to it. Never f*** with factory unless u kno what it'll do.

they werent factory grounds like i stated the battery had a shroud which made it so u could put 6 extra grounds ,i took the extra grounds off there is no reason for it to have that many grounds.plus it was ugly and the cables where blue.
ill take a picture of it to show you what it looked like before.

chances are he just unbolted them from the frame and bolted them to the shroud (maybe hoping for a cleaner look). look for empty bolt hole on ur frame, get watever colors u want and bolt em down, they are there for a reason which is probably related to ur problem.

this is an old pic of the hammered bay,you can see the shroud on the battery and all the extra grounds.

also the extra ground wires are the same type of wireing that was under the carpet that lead from the under the carpet where the glove box is to under the back seats that i removed after i bought it. dont know if the shroud has anything to do with the previous sound system wireing i found.

Re: Idle Problem,Electrical??? (BJA86)
wow ive never seen that before... im still gonna say that those wires were connected to the frame at one point. I'm sure why he would run them all to the batt like that, seems pointless. But like i said, look for empty bolt holes. try getting a good pic of the same year honda engine bay and u might be able to trace the wires back.
One question i never asked... have u hooked them back up to see if the problem continues?

If adding that crap back fixes your problem then you got other problems.
If it were me i would be inspecting the factory grounds and repairing and replacing as necessary.

Re: (BJA86)
I am having idle problems too.
Rpm at 1500-1750...bouncing between the 2.
I am a noob as shown in my avvy...be nice. =P
In his picture of his engine bay...
Near the middle...closer to the winshield...there's something blue.
On my engine bay around that area are 2 wires...1 green and 1 yellow.
Something stolen obviously.
Cut short too. >.<
Are those for the IACV i'm told i needed?
If anyone is willing to help...
Email me at rawrz@tmail.com and I'll send the pic.
I can't due to only having net on my phone and wii.
No uploading.

Re: (lilo_goki)
ok so i took the iavc off cleaned it with carb fluid(it was pretty dirty), dried it with an air compressor while i let it dry for about 2 hours i took off the throttle body cleaned it up ,put a new gasket on put it all back together triple checked the connections/hoses ,reset the ecu and after it warmed up it stays at 1500 rpms,i screwed the idle screw all theway in and that didnt do anything.
Then i drove about 2-3 miles and the engine light comes back on(throwing same iacv code) ,idle starts to run like crap, like it bogs down faster to idle but now still stays at 1500 rpms,im not sure what to do now
is it a bad iacv, are the sensors [freak]ed up do i have a bad ECU? im kind of on a low budget at the moment, so buying parts is going to suck if i need to figure out the problem especially since this is my DD
any suggestions???

Re: (BJA86)
you can check if you have enough anti-freeze in the radiator cause sometimes when the ivac sensor doesnt have enough it will run crappy ....
also all those grounds are soo it eliminates the ne static the engine has soo those grounds were a good idea... i dont know why u took them off...
and also check all ur wiring and make sure no wire is disconnected or bearly touching...
