ideas for my civic
I currently have a 96 civic ex which is 100% stock. i was just wondering what the best way to go since my goal is to have around 400hp in it. just wondering what everyone thought was the best engine, turbo, and everything else i would have to do to get there...thanks

The best way to go about it is to read the stickies and search the forums and ask specific questions.
Nobody here will be willing to help you plan out your entire build, and even if you find one person, nobody else will agree with them.
If you don't know what to do, then go drop a bag of money in front of a shop and tell them "Make it go fast."

Re: ideas for my civic (kaiba)
go to a shop and ask them to put an sr20 rotary-pistoned motor complete with turbo headers and vtakkkk with mad boost yo. and ask them how much they will charge to drop a flux capacitor and some muffler bearings in the back, shouldn't cost you a lot of money
*EDIT* nah, but seriously, SEARCH!

Nobody can improve on a setup that you haven't listed.

Re: (soccerstar19)
the engine you have in it may have some potential if turboed. You could make around 200hp on stock internals and a good setup and god tune. If you upgrade your internals you could easily see 300hp, depending on the turbo setup and boost. Another way you could go is a swap. You could swap an LS B18b in there and turbo that. With the LS you can reach your 400hp goal easier then with the d16 you have in there. But the LS will also require upgraded internals and a decent amount of boost to run 400hp. Either way if you keep your stock d16 or swap a B seires i there its going ot require a turbo setup and decent amount of boost. My advie is to look in the Forced Induction section, and get some ideas of possibilities and what is involved. Good luck and search. Also a 400hp setup is going to cost you at least $3k -$5k.

i defiinitely have to agree about the SR20 or big block v8....its gotta be the best way to go....but sometimes when u do the big block v8 swap u can have problems w/cracking u marker lights....so replace them and dont forget to fill up w/ turn signal fluid

Re: ideas for my civic (soccerstar19)
im more of an all motor person and if i had that money, i would def go with a Kseries...but it wont give you 400whp with it unless you take it the FI route like any other motor...but i would be more than satisfied with that K...
go on the Forced Induction ( https://honda-tech.com/zeroforum/16 ) forum, im sure you can get all the info you need there..

Nice thread, nice numbers.
Bit of comparing apples to oranges though with a 1.8 DOHC to a 1.6 SOHC .

Re: ideas for my civic (soccerstar19)
power is nothing without control...
so 9000
Suspension about 1400-1600
GC/Koni w/ 2 tophats - 975 (weaksauce)
ASR Brace/ITR Sway - 340 (weaksauce)
New bushings + install - 250-350
Wheels/Tires 400-550 ish (Rotas w/ Korean rubber)
leaves you with about 7grand for engine...
wait.. maybe you want to do a brake upgrade??
you can go all out with 4piston up front and singles in the rear...that would be around 1400-1500 (fastbrakes)
or you can just do a small but effective upgrade (rear disc,ss lines, better rotors/pads) 200-300 ish...
so now that leaves you about 5500 for engine mods..
that doesn't give you enough for some "Special K"
you can save your money and boost the d for a quickie, but limited potential
you can build a swap in a B and call it a day.. then work on it as time goes on...
or you can save the cash for a K
i dunno why i so badly want a K, but for more info on K-series: http://www.K20a.org
i think its the N/A power ^^
Since HT doesn't know much about you, I'll just assume your a newbie with a good amount of cash...
Newbies shouldn't have 400hp, but what you want to do with your money is not my problem...220hp to the front wheels with a great amount of torque should be enough to keep you happy for a while...its all about the power to weight ratio, and how the car reacts to your inputs...i mean look at the spoon fit.... not much power, but everyone who drives it has a blast

Re: ideas for my civic (bmoua)
dude just search and read then come and ask about ur setup. and u will still have people pull apart your setup and try ot make it there own. u will never get a setup everyone agrees with, but as long as u can deal and like it do what you want not what others think u should do. me i prefer to buy stronger and more expensive parts to build my motor cause i feel they will last longer and better quality but many people will disagree with me saying hey go eagle rods instead of manley or any big expensive name brand. yet when it comes to some JDM parts they say "what you pay for is what you get". just search not just on this site but others and read on turbos and motors and what is best for you. i mean b16a is the cheapest but i always wanted to build a b18c motor myself. but i desided to build my b16a. good luck on ur build and be sure to post pics when u begin

i have to agree w/ every1 on the suspension...my bros b16 eg hatch couldnt do a damn thing in a race because he couldnt put it to the ground...we put his new suspension together and he can launch and rip off the line like ive never seen many other Front wheel drive cars do......its nasty i love it
