IACV Problem?
welp i took the throttle body of my moms 97 civic dx with a d16y7 today to clean it up because she has had an unusualy high idle which was not correctable by adjusting the screw. i cleaned all the parts out with throttle body cleaner and assembled it all back together again and started the car and now the idle surges drops surges drops surges drops and so on. its hunting for an idle basically and cant find one. i am almost absolutly sure its the idle air control valve but wanted to see what other people thought before i bought a 200$ part. i have three sensors to guess and they are all expensive as hell, IACV, MAP sensor, and throttle position sensor. tell me what YOU think.
nice **** up huh?
thanks for any help.

Re: IACV Problem? (Jedi Master)
it's probably the IAC valve. Take that off and see if the screen is dirty. If it is, then most likely it's bad and you can't do anything but buy a new one. The ecu knows it went bad, and won't recognize if it was cleaned. Had the same problem on my type r, but it's cause I had no filter on my turbo. Check and make sure the TB gasket is on right too. It could look like the correct way, but could not be. If you're not sure, spray some carb cleaner around the mating surface of the TB and IM, and if it suges, it's leaking, otherwise, most lilkely IAC, expensive, but worth it...hope that helps, let us know what happened...

D16Y7 (DX/LX motor) has the IACV integraded with the TB. your surging might be due to a vacume leak (almost possitive this is your issue)...double check all lines, gaskets etc.

Could be a vacuum leak.
Could be IACV.
Can be air in the IACV/fast idle valve circuit
Can be TPS sensor on the way out.
I'll be diagnosing the same crap this weekend. Second time it's happened. This time I think it's my IACV. First time was a BIG BUTT leak around the supercharger gasket. GRRRRR. THAT was a pain in the butt to fix.

Re: IACV Problem? (plnoldrick)
everything has been dissassembled including all sensors and cleaned, since the pcv valve was bad it seems a ton of oil had gotten in via the valve cover breather and clogged a lot of stuff.
yeah i guess its not called the idle air control valve but the rotory valve or something liek that, it sits towards the valve cover with the green plug. im almost positive that what it is. its not the TPS because i pulled the plug to the tps sensor with the car running and it did absolutly nothing to fix the surge, it should have at least made a difference. im gonna try and find a used rotory valve since brand new they are 200$ replace the rubber o ring for it and put a new throttle body gasket on top of it. hopefully it wont be in vain. if anyone knows anyone with a junk d16y7 who wants to part out a throttle body fess up. thanks for the input everyone.

yo man i got what you need, i have a d16y7 just lying around with 15XXXmiles. I have a complete TB with all sensors and from what i've read you need a rotary valve. I'm asking $60+ shipping(COD) costs for the rotary valve. $150+ shipping(COD) if your interested in the whole TB with all sensors(TPS, MAP, IACV).

Just finished diagnosing mine.
Fast idle air control valve - arrgghghhg.
I'm plugging that horrible thing until I can get a new throttle body.

Re: IACV Problem? (shawnhayes)
you know what, sometimes i think us enthusiests look for the most complex thing it could possibly be. that is why i totally over looked the fact that the throttle body is symetrical and the gasket could go on two ways and still look right but the port for the map sensor would be blocked.
which was my problem.
sometimes i wonder if i beat myself with the dumbass stick.
but thanks for the help and offerings of cheap parts from everyone. i'll see if i can get you all back one day.
