In short, no. The SOHC is an economy engine. It takes a lot to make power with them.

be content with what you have
power takes money and turboing a d16 or building it up is not econical cost wise since a b series is not that much more

i honestly think a d-series starter motor has more torque to the wheels than the engine...do the math i actually think it does with the gearing on the flywheel

Actually if you boost a y8 you'll get around as much power to the wheels as a Hype-r. For somewhere around $1.5k to $3k for a C.A.R.B. legal kit, thats $2k to $4k less than a swap. D16's can take up to 200 whp w/o a problem.

There are a couple $2k kits out now for y8's.

dollar for dollar, turbo'd D would kill swapped in B16, just murder it.

but without $1K+ no real way to get torque into D16. I haven't even touched my D16 nor do I plan on it since its a) a D16 and b) not worth $1+ unless I do go turbo. So all my money is on suspension, so when I get it up to speed, I can keep it there through the twisties, hehe

who said anything about b-series?

but ya, until dollar gets to enough for the b16 to have nitrous, then you're SOL SOHC

sohc turbo will go a hell of alot faster than 15.6 @ 89.2mph and for the cost of a b16, you could afford a nice home made turbo kit for a stock d.

Im not engaging into a debate about it, but I will agree with you that you have a much better platform for a turbo setup. However, that does not mean that d16s are POS. They can very well sustain 200whp on stock internals, and can be built to produce a hell of alot more.

And just to mention, the original poster wanted cheap torque. The thought of mentioning B16 in a cheap torque topic is rather ironic. For the cost of a b16, you can turbo a d16 and produce a hell of alot more torque than a stock b16. I felt like your statement was too generic and not open-minded about d16s whatsoever and therefore posted what I did.

Not really. A properly tuned SOHC VTEC turbo can go 12's without much issue. Check the FI forum if you don't believe me. No need to get all butthurt because you dropped $1500 on a B16 to make your shitbox go high 15's. It's cool. That must be frustrating.
