I want hids for my 00 coupe, don't want a retrofit tho. Assistance please...
Hey guys,
I would love to have HIDS for my 00 coupe, but wanted to see what my options were. I dont want to do a retrofit, but isnt there another way I can run HIDS in my stock housing? What about cards that have HIDS but dont use projectors? Any suggestions would be muchly appreciated. Thanks.
Mike

you will probably get burned by many of the hardcore lighting guys, but here is a simple plug and play with hi and lo beams, and they have casper shields to help reduce glare, good price too. was looking into them for my 98 coupe. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...d=1,1

i have seen casper shields made out of cut up coke cans and such, but it really just blocks light from hitting the lower reflector and it covers the tip of the bulb to keep unfocused light from blinding oncoming drivers. i plan on buying this kit in the next month or two (hopefully with xmas money) and if you want ill let you know how it goes. whichever road you take use 4300k HIDs

i agree, 10x better. for everyone. but IF the shield really keeps the glare down, they might not be too bad for other drivers.

ive seen some people with the shields and it didnt make a big difference. but then again they made the shields. so more power to ya if you can lower the glare a shitload, and not blind the on coming drivings with your PnP kit.
edit..

your post shows a 6k kit, but would a 4300 as a PNP not be effective? yes i know it would have glare and hotspots, but what about actual output?

4.3K would be twice as halogen output. Output would be all over the place though due to the housing made for halogen. 5K is the closest to daylight output. That's why I'd recommend it for stock halogen housing using a plug and play kit(pure white).
4.3K is basically the OEM bulb rating all OEM HID projector cars use. Mercedes got the 4.8K on their stock projectors recently but most use the 4.3K
They will colorshift with time to white then to the whitish blueish color everyone desires(ever wonder why bmw's or acura's or audi's light output changed? and when you see a new one they're yellowish whitish?). The more the bulbs colorshift, the less the actual output aimed to the road you'll get.
ANyways, Phillips came out w/5K rating hid bulbs to match the colorshifted ones in case your OEM hid bulb burns and the other is still working. The 5K hid bulbs will provide the pure white right out of the box instead of the yellowish whiteish at 4.3K that with overtime and use colorshift to the white-blue.
Hope that helps

just in relation to the kit i was looking into, the only color temps offered are 4300, 6000, 8000 so on. so if i use 4300 it would eventually shift?

Retro fit is the way to go. I just bought a KLIGHT kit from ebay. They look nice even though they have that little metal piece at the bottom saying it prevents glare is does not really help at all. And i did get hella people who high beamed me. I got the 6000k kit and i wouldnt go any higher. I would recommend the 5000k because its white and you can see the road clearly but i suggest getting a retrofit for hids they are worth the investment

Then don't bother. Either do it the right way the first time, or find something else to spend your money on.

Do the retrofit, or even at the least, and i really mean the least is to get a set of projector headlights, this way you have a beam instead of the light being scattered like its supposed to in your stock housing.

don't get misinformed. Projector lenses decrease the visibility in stock housing for you're using a 55W rating which gives no output at all. And the projectors will concentrate the beam to a certain spot but will not spread it throughout the road. If you want the same output as the stock housing on halogen with a projector headlight then go 110W w/a special harness that won't burn your wires.
this is how it goes: HID projectors > HID kit > Halogen > Halogen projectors.

go retro!!!! I am currently retro'ing TL bi-xenon projectors with rare ZKW lense...for the past years I have been running one of the best "kits" that come with a custom casper shield...this was a hylow kit but high beams sucked ***... they cast a 'lil more glare upwards thats it. kit was purchase from http://www.hid-online.com out of england
The shield you see here is part of the kit - normally there is no shield in OEM CTR headlamps
look Ma - no amber bulbs
night-time cutoff - 1st pic you can see a slight halo thats a complete half-circle (pic cam out a 'lil dark)
good pic showing frontal coverage
blurry but....(frontal area pics where no on flat pavement....so you don't get the best idea of how far you can really see ahead of you - I will work on better pics)
progress so far with retro
results will look just like this
short 25-30 ft http://video.google.com/videop...hl=en
long 125-150 ft
http://video.google.com/videop...hl=en
zkw lense causes light projection to get sharper the further away (up to an extent) which is opposite of just about any other setup
if you get a kit MAKE SURE you get casper shields!!!!! If not your **** will look wAAAACK like
jesus - is this a train
retros look like
