I need help: a stripped bolt while installing springs.
Well here is the story....earlier today a buddy of mine and i began installing his springs on his recently bought 92 hatch. all is well for the back left and right, no problems at all. i was very surprised at how easy it is actually. anyways long story short one of the front springs was easy and the other was almost done when the top bolt stripped. it stripped where the allen key goes on top of the nut which holds the spring/shock together, in the pics u can see what im talking about.
i was wondering if anyone has experienced this problem before. and if so how did u solve it? if i dont hear anything by tomorrow im just goin to go to a junkyard and grab a new one. just wondering if there is a way to save the one i got. thanks in advance and hopefully you can understand my horrible use of the english language as i tried to explain my problem.

Same thing happened to mine. I just bought a new shock, your gonna do more damage getting the nut off and its not worth it. You can get a set of KYB GR-2's (I think thats what they are called) for like $250. Just get new shocks, you will need them anyway.

use the next size up allen from the size that stripped it and pound it in thats what i did and it worked fine..you could also use a die grinder and make a slot big enough to fit a flat head screw driver in
the allen thing works the best though you only have to pound it in like a 1/4 of the way to stop it from spinning then just bolt it all back up

they have a tool out (dont know what its called ) you put it over the bolt and hammer on it and it cracks the bolt in half..thats what i did with a bolt that got stripped on my rear strut and got it off with no problems..goodluck..

thanks alot for all the help guys. what i ended up doing was trying to hammer a larger allen wrench in but that stripped too. this morning we went to a shop that a buddy of mine works at... he had an extra shock laying around so we took it off his hands and finished the job. looks pretty good too...thanks again for the help!
