Default I love VTEC!

I was wondering why a VAFC has the intial settings of Lo>Hi cam at 5800 and Lo>Hi cam at 5400? When you initialize a VAFC doesnt that set it back to factory ECU specs? From what i have heard factory Hi>Lo is 5400 @WOT and Lo-Hi is 5200; what gives?

Hi>Lo, Lo>Hi- what the hell are you talking about? Maybe I don't know what you know...but I know that factory VTEC kicks in at about 5400-5500, you can set your VTEC kick-in on a VAFC all the way down to like 4000. Like a VTEC controller....you confuse me.

i believe its the settings for once u are in VTEC u can adjust the RPM when u come out of it, and of course the settings for when u are on WOT. Its good for when u shift and the RPM's drop u out of VTEC, u can aleviate that issue with this. Play around with it and find out.

There are adjustments you can make on the VAFC to determine when the "hicam" switches back to the "lowcam." Not all factory VTEC engagement occurs at 54-5500.

from what i have read at clubsi.com, vtec on a factory B16A2 engages at 5,400rpm @ WOT, but when you initialize the Vafc it engages at 5,800. I also read that the factory Hi>Lo cam engagement point is 5200, but again when i initialize(reset) the Vafc is comes up as 5400. What im getting at is why are there conflicting points of engagement? The Vafc tells me one thing, and people say another.

This question is not that complicatied....but you are wording your questions to confuse some people. What you need to do is put the vtec settings on the vafc to your liking....then when you have some cash go to a dyno and find the best rpm for vtec to engage/disengage at (so you dont come out of vtec when running through the gears). There are always conflicting setting with everything you do to your car...you just have to adjust them correctly.

I just want to know where i should leave my vtec settings so that they are as close to stock as possible before i get it dyno'd.

Because the VAFC is not designed for one particular engine and half the time people have no idea what they are talking about. You have to do some research to find out the stock engagement point for your motor and set it to that.

Then when you can get on a dyno you can find where your power curve starts to fall off before VTEC turns on change your crossover accordingly.

Im told by the moderators at clubsi.com that my stock engagement is 5400 and 5200 for low to hi and hi to low, respectively. When I intitialize the controller, which resets it back to factory ECU settings (supposedly) it sets the engagement at 5800 and 5400, respectively.

Then set it back to the "moderators" suggestive settings and leave it be.... What does it matter what the VAFC is set at initially...it is supposed to be changed...its that part of the reason you purchased the VAFC? So all i can tell you is engage vtec at 5400-5500 (your choice) and put the high-low to 5200 ( i always had mine at 4800 just in case). question answered?

yeah, thanks for the advice. i was just afraid of misfire because my cat went bad not too long ago, it had around 70,000 miles on it. I had the vtec set at 5800 then, and now its at the suggested settings. I just dont want this new cat to go bad since i have it welded to my custom piping, that would mean a new cat AND new piping.

its fine dude. mine is set @ the same settings. high 5400 low 5300. works out fine. it may run richer if you set it lower, but that isn't going to foul your cat...
