I/H/E Not Worth It!!!
I just popped over to comptech's website to check out some of thier stuff and decided to take a look at their dyno sheets. Basically for over $1k in Headers and exhasut you get about 7-9hp OOOOOHHHHH, hold me back that's MAD POWA!!! I wonder why we waste our money on this crap! For $500 I bought a D16Z6 for my cx and voila almost a 100% increase in power for the cost of GOOD headers!!! AEM claims a 12hp bump with thier intake, ok maybe but I have also seen private dyno pulls on H-T confirm as much. Still, I am on the cusp of doing some modding to the D16 and I am asking myself why bother??? I think a cheapo OBX axle back will do just as much as a $500 DC setup will. I might as well spend the extra and build up a block with P28 pistons and a VFAC. Ok rant over continue with the JDM stunna crap...
comptech is jdm?? either way ...maybe some people want that kind of power...like myself i have intake headers and exhaust and i am pleased with the results...180 intake 300 header 200 exhaust...680 not bad for the same thing
What was the point of this thread??
Just ranting and raving, no point at all, or maybe I am just looking for solace in the face of spending lots of money, or even some good soul will come along and tell me it aint so and show me the dyno sheets to prove it. And no Comptech is not JDM I know this, I was just trying to segue back to the regualar JDM stunna crap that is board seems to host now, much less Tech and much more "Check out my JDM: lip, wheels, mirrors, cluster, shiftknob......"

it is worth it, if you actually go further with the motor. If all your doing is I/h/e, then then it may not be worth it.

Bolt ons are good if you are looking to take your car a step further....
Lets face it, the gains are minimal, but if you go turbo or do alot of internal work to the engine, you will be glad those bolt ons are there

I would never buy an Intake,Header and exhaust for that much. I bought my **** used. You pay way less. The only new thing I would buy would be muffler. If I could buy used paint I would sure as hell buy it too.
if yougo turbo, you'll kick yourself in the *** for buying bolt-ons...

comptech also specializes in actual RACE products
so those extra 7-9hp could be .1 or .2 on a road course, and races are won by .1 or .2 all the time.
but yes its worthless on a street car.

The funny thing is, almost everyone always recommends I/H/E as first mods for beginners, and after that the mods usually stop.

If you build your own exhaust it is a lot cheaper... for instance there is a buy on this website for mandrel bends for I believe 140 but don't quote me and then just buy a simple muffler... and there you have it... a <250 NEW exhaust system. Just a suggestion.
You have to have intake and exhaust mods if you are going to go F/I or a big N/A build up. You have to. Otherwise, you will not reach the full potential of the parts that you are installing. For example, when we tested my friends '95 b16 turbo powered Civic, on the stock exhaust if reached 201hp on 10psi. It was showing almost 20psi of back-pressure. We installed an HKS Hyper cat back, and the power shot up to almost 270, and the back-pressure was down to a much more tollerable 7-8psi. Intakes are the same thing. If the air can't get in fast enough, you are screwed. The header is dependant on if it is an N/A build up or not.
Engine building is a puzzle. Do you need all the peices of the puzzle to be able to tell what the picture is? No. But it sure is a lot nicer outcome if you put the whole thing together right.

as for i/h/e each motor responds differently to different boltons, and yes i believe its worth it if you do it right
