I got me some bad *** tires
I finally got myself new tires and rims. I'll post them when it's warm enough to was my car. but check this out.
I was debating between Kumhos and Falkens. The guys at Discount Tire Direct talked me out of the Falkens, I figured they were just trying to sell me on Kumhos because they carried them, the only explanation they could give me when I asked what was so bad about falkens was that they were made by Firestone.
Well I bought the kumhos. A few days later I was driving down I294 to pick them up and I see a tire laying in the road, ripped to shreads. As I passed it I noticed the unmistakable treads of a Falken Azenis Sport. The exact tire I was looking at.
Talk about irony

Not to burst your bubble too much, but that could've happened for any number of reasons aside from it being a low quality tire. Congrats on the purchase, however. I'd like to know a little more on the 711s.

the 711 offers a H rated tire which is a lower speed rating and harder compound but last longer and is a bit cheaper. About $52 in a 205/50 R15 as compared to a Z rated 712 at $70

Tires blow out from more than poor construction. Falken Tires are firestone? I don't think so.

Sheesh
Calm down guys. He just said he saw some busted Falkens on the side of the road. Irony is the keyword. No English buffs in here?

Re: I got me some bad *** tires (acura_typer)
falken tire is its own company, not owned by a large conglomerate. As far as the kumho being a bad *** tire, ummm, NO! Comparing the kumho to the azenis is like comparing butter and guns. Completely different animals. The kumho 711 and 712's for that matter are nothing special, yeah, they may be slightly better than the shitilins that come stock on the SI, GSR, and LS, however, they aren't that much better. If you do think those tires are the bomb, then its quite apparent you've never had a truly high quality HIGH performance tire. There is a reason why kumho distributors aren't on backorder while falken distributors are on backorder out the ying yang. Just last weekend I was following a good friend of mine through some turns, I happened to have made the mistake and bought into the hype of the kumho 712. He happened to hear my gripes about the kumhos and decided to pick up the azenas. Lets just say while he was cruising through the turns, my kumhos were sliding like a bitch, and we both have similar suspension setups with mine actually being the better setup of the 2. Return those tires if it isn't too late and find someplace who has the azenas.

Falken is part of the Ohtsu Tire and Rubber parent company.
Those S-03s that folks rave about can be called Firestones. It wouldn't keep me from buying them, either.
Those truck treads that you see on the highway are generally retreads that peel off the carcass. Essentially they are poorly rebuilt tires.

The reason you see truck tire carcasses all over the road is not because they use cheap tires. It's because truck drivers get there tires recapped so save money on new tires, but recaps fall off all the time.
Kumho 712 Supra Ecsta's are nothing even close to the stock Si michelins. They are 10x grippier. Supra 712's have great grip, they just dont last very long..

Actually, Bridgestone is the parent of firestone, and I just got me some SO-3 pole positions. Now thats a bad *** tire.

Re: I got me some bad *** tires (Speed_Ricer99)
I can relate completely. Today was my first day driving around on Kumho 712s, and it makes a world of difference compared to the stock mich's. It was hard to decide between the 712s and the Azenis. But, since I needed the tires now and could not wait a few weeks for the Azenis that was what made me get the Kumho's. My car handles better than I would've hoped for. And I realize the 712s aren't great tires, just good for the price, but man they really impressed me in terms of grip. Not only is my car more fun to drive now, it's also a lot safer. just my $.02

Re: I got me some bad *** tires (SoloSol)
that 18 wheeler thing; i was trying to compare an expensive tire (18 wheeler) to 2 a realtivly (inexpensive) tire . Showing that cost should not be an issue for a tire failure. sorry for not being clear.

Re: I got me some bad *** tires
does anyone know if yokohama makes the parada for a 15" wheel? i really wanted those tires, but i've decided to go with a lighter 15" rota wheel and i can't find paradas that small. i'm now considering pirelli p7000's or kumho ecsta supra 712's, what do you think?

currently running Bridgestone Potenza RE930i 195/60HR14's on stock rims, better than stock, but nothing special
