Default HYDROLOCKED! :(

was driving in this back road around town and it wasn't even raining. i come doing a sharp left andthere it was, the puddle of bent rods.! i have a 00 civic si em1 b16a. and im blown.. literally.

The good news is that im going type r swap asap. anything i need to know?

like about motor mounts? I heard the driver side motor mounts from and em1 to a type r motor is a 2 bolt vs a 3 bolt?

is this true?

will it be a direct swap?

what about running a b16 transmission with a b18c jdm long block. ? is it better or is the lsd in the type r worth it.

Will i be able to pass emissions? i dont have to go in for another 2 years but i run an obd2b ecu right now, is the type r a obd2b also? or do they give u a jdm ecu or soemthing.

will a 00 civic si flywheel fit on a b18c5 ?

Do I have to worry about any wiring issues?

I might have the shop install it they gave me a pretty good price or might do it myself im not sure yet..

Sorry for anyone i pmed to ask for a part and now i am canceling the order.. i was not expecting this to happen, and i say do not ever use COLD AIR INTAKES... unless u want to spend extra for bypass valve and pre filter for like 3 hp gains.

How did you get such a significant amount of water? I have a CAI and it's tucked perfectly in between the inner fender well and bumper. I can't imagine unless I sat in the puddle that a significant amount of water would get in there.

when i was in maryland all they did when i took a 95 civic in there was. vacume tested my fuel system for leaks. and stuck a sniffer in my tail pipe and put it on the rollers. my car smoked a little so i was worried but it passed with ease. no visual inspection of what was under the hood or anything plugged into my ecu. hope this helps.

if you are worried about emissions, and they do a ecu check ( not just sniffer ).

then for ease of everything, go with another B16, pick up a jdm longblock and swap over the oil pump, or buy a new oil pump from honda And you are set.

second option is, go GSR , cheaper than a type R and easier for you to find a obd2 ecu , ( becareful some have inmobilizers in them).

then 3rd option type R, remember than each of these swaps will need to use a usdm ecu if they plug into your obd2 port for emissions.

Did you pull the plugs and turn the engine over to see if you can get it to clear the water out?
Unless you had some significant RPMs going, chances are that you didn't do any damage.

Hydrolocked my B16 before while creeping through some flood water. Just pulled the plugs, cranked it for a few seconds to clear the water out of the cylinders, put plugs back in and away I went.

I did an oil change the next day, but all was good.

i ran a jdm b18c (same motor as the usdm b18c1 pretty much) with a b16 tranny, much quicker than a full gsr/type r swaps, i could hang/usually beat most b18c5 swapped cars just because of how short the gears were, however if you are thinking of ever going boost go ahead and get the gsr/type r tranny

lol i understand. i ran straight into what appeared to be a small river that was covering a backroad one night. luckily i was able to get out of it with my motor still intact. but at least you got a swap for it.

B16A/B16B and ITR transmissions are geared exactly the same, the only difference being that the ITR/CTR trannys were equipped with a helical LSD. '98+ JDM ITR trannys have a lower final drive but IIRC are otherwise geared a little higher so the final result is almost the same. GS-Rs are geared a bit higher.

are you sure your motor is even dead yet? pull the spark plugs and crank it over to shoot the water out, change the oil and see if it will run. don't just assume that its dead.

ive hydrolocked my jeep a few times when out mudding. so far its still running perfectly fine.

If you do CAI, you should get hydro shields. Protects from big amounts of water entering your motor.

I know ^ that is a good idea and all...but if you see a giant puddle...pay attention. It's like having a lowered car and seeing a giant pot hole or bad parking lot transition...you slow down and avoid the hazard instead of plowing through it.

Ya know..... Type-Rs aren't the only Civic/Integras that came with LSD. Some of the B16A powered Civics came with the same S4C used in the CTR. I've bought a few B16A swaps from e-bay and HMO that had the S4C which I'm guessing was original because it's happened 3-4 times. I've also bought SiR-G swaps that came with LSD S80s. Also, OG cable trannies had optional LSD in the YS1 which was before the Hype-Rs were ever released.

^ you're right about that, but the other LSDs were all a viscous type (YS1 was possibly helical but I don't think so, the others are definitely viscous), they work ok for spirited driving but they really aren't suited for track use. They either fail and act like an open diff or a spool depending on what happens.

Also, Saint John this week eh? That's about 3 hours from here.
