Default hx motor into an ex?

so i blew up my y8, and can't find one. found a good shape y5 for cheap, gas is expensive, and i'm over the fast honda thing for now.

anyone know if can i make this work with my existing harness? i'd swap the ecu obviously, but i'm not sure about the wiring differences.

additional wiring needed for the EGR and 5-wire O2.

My y5 is pretty much stock. Short ram intake, header, ITR cat (don't ask) and 2.25 exhaust into a muffler shop s pattern muffler.

I get about 33 miles per gallon, averaging 150 freeway miles a week. But my commute has a BIG hill that's about 1 mile long that I'm sure eats into my mileage.

When I was completely stock I got was able to get over 400 miles on one tank on the freeway.

Besides the VTEC-e, a lot of fuel savings is from the transmission.

dunno, i get like about 400 too on my y8, header and intake...i say this since i fill at half a tank (4.4 gal give or take) on reg with this prices and it gets me to school, work and back. mind u thats 100 miles, give or take, a day...so i fill up every 4th trip/2 days with gas left over

yep, you'll need the hx ecu, unless you want a huge loss in midrange power. Plus the y5 ecu + 5wire o2 sensor is the key to getting the good gas mileage.

everyone has shut up with the d16y5 bashing since I started my project.

Another thing, by having a 4.25 final drive in your ex transmission, you will often be cruising at speeds in 16valve mode. Not that there's any problem with this, just that your gas mileage won't be as good as a hx at that given speed.

HX was a good choice. i put an EX tranny in mine to give it some extra power, and it hasnt changed my MPG much even with I/H/E :D

as far as mileage goes my 97 w/ 151k miles gets 37-41mpg mostly. All of the hx's from 96-00 are obd2a (which is kinda weird since they changed) so if yours is 96-98 your good to go but if you have a 99-00 ex which is obd2b you'll need a conversion harness as well.
