Humming/whining sound from left dash area...
I recently purchased a 92 Civic SI hatchback and am experiencing a humming/ whining sound which is coming through the driver's dash area on the left hand side of the steering wheel. This noise get louder as the engine rpm's get greater. I thought it may have been the alternator, but am unsure.
Any help is appreciated.

Re: (carlosd68)
It doesn't sound like air and I removed my amp awhile back when troubleshooting this problem. The noise is still present without the amp.
I know the noise is NOT from:
Intake
Tweeters
I recently installed a JDM cluster, has anybody ever experienced abnormal humming sounds from theirs?

I do have Azenis tires, but I'm familiar with that certain noise. This noise sounds electrical. My ears just can't pinpoint its origin though.

The noise is present whenever the throttle is depressed, even at a standstill in neutral while revving. The noise increases as the revs raise.

Your problem is electrical noise. Something is not grounded right and/or not shielded correctly/adequately. This noise can be amplified through any of the speakers in your car. You may also notice that your noise increases or changes pitch when the windshield wipers turn on, or when your turn signals are on.

I currently have no audio components installed in the car, not even a head unit. Could be a grounding issue though.

Have you figured this out?... I have been racking my brain trying to think of what CAN make a noise in the dash... there shouldn't be anything in the car that produces that noise (but obviously is!!! ) Have you gotten outside of the car and accelerated the motor? When you are outside, does it sound like it's coming from under the dash or under the hood?... Does it sound the same? If you hear it when under the hood, can you pinpoint it's location? Keep us posted. If you figure this one out, it could save someone else a LOT of time later on if they have the same problem...

Wanted to add, I popped the hood and the sound was actually coming from the power steering pump.
Anyone else experienced this? Would I have to replace the pump entirely or try the seals first?
