How would you know if you have WARPED rotors?
I just change my wife's brake pads about 3 weeks ago but since then it keeps on having a severe squeling during braking...and having this low clunking noise on slow braking like parking......double cheked and cleaned everything but it looks fine a little info will help thx

usually the steering wheel will vibrate if you have warped rotors. Did you add the anti chatter when putting the pads on? Sometimes it is a paste and other times it is a plastic sticky piece you put behind the pad inside the caliper.

Did you turn the rotors (re-surface)? You will feel a vibration during braking
if they are warped. You could get a squeal from the pads if you used cheap pads. I have seen many cheap pads squeal, even when new.

no did not apply those anti-chatter paste but bought one thought (stupid me) the pads where cheap too cheap that I'll probably replace them!!! and yes the steering wheel woubles a lot when braking (eg.) on the free way

just drive it and brake a little harder then normal and if you feel a vibration...it will vibrate lighter or harder considering how warped they are.

if the steering wheel shakes on the highway with out hitting the brakes it is either a wheel balance issue or bent wheel. if it ibrates when you push the brakes it is a brake problem

Rotors that are "warped" will be noticed under braking depending how bad they are. The problem is your brake pads have transfered material unevenly to the rotors causing high and low spots on the rotors, hence the vibration. Good brake pads will keep this from happening as they will transfer material evenly across the rotor.

That's ABS.

your wrong. if the pedal vibrates when you push the brakes its usually a warped rotor. he probably doesnt even have abs

In cars with ABS the brake pedal pulsates.

Re: How would you know if you have WARPED rotors? (Solracer)
THe main symptom of warped rotors is pulsing pedal under any braking, It will vary with the speed of the car. Additionally, it may shake the steering wheel.
Warping of rotors is caused by overheating them, such as under hard braking... It gets easier to overheat the rotors the older they are, because they are thinner... Thinner rotors don't have as much metal to absorb the heat as well...
Before getting your brake rotors resurfaced, have them checked for thickness with a micrometer... The minimal spec is stamped onto the hub or edge of the rotor... If it's rusted over, the spec can be found in the factory service manual, in any home repair manual, or some type of reference book... As most of us don't have brake lathes at home, the person who you bring it to will be able to measure the rotors adn tell you if they're too thin or not...
The lathe may or may not get rid of the uneven surface on the rotor...
Squeaking is caused by the rubbing of the pad against the rotor. Cheap pads will squeak, but also, if anti-squeak isn't used, any small vibrations will reverberate through the whole front end of the car... If anti-squeak is unavailable, you can use High temperature grease on the back of the pad, where it touches the caliper. Also get the little ears that fit into the caliper bracket... Don't put too much as it will get on the rotor and pad surface, which is the last place you want it to get... Just a thin layer on the back. Also, turning the rotor will get rid of the lip that develops at the edge of the rotor where the pad doesn't touch.

do you think i may need the rotors resurfaced, or do you think applying anti-squeek and turning the rotors may help? thanks

have the rotors turned for about $10 each or replace them. apply breakleen anti-rattle paste on the outside of the pads housing just where it contacts the piston. That ought to do it. Do not forget to apply break lube to the sliding caliper bolt.

Re: How would you know if you have WARPED rotors? (batibot)
if they you brakes are squeeling during braking, sometimes they can get glazed over from the heat and they start to squeek, if u take them off and take some sand paper and sand them down a bit to get rid of the glaze that should do the trick. But since u have warped rotors that is another thing that people already helped u with

If you can do the work yourself, I would recommend just throwing on a new set of brembo blanks. They are only like $25 a piece.

your wrong. if the pedal vibrates when you push the brakes its usually a warped rotor. he probably doesnt even have abs
In cars with ABS the brake pedal pulsates.

the ABS system pulsates, not the brake pedal.
