How to Wire Knock Sensor?
93 civic - obd2 gsr motor/tranny/harness
- obd1 p72 ecu.
Reading error code 23 which is knocksensor.
I ran a wire into plug D3 into a red wire on my driver side harness. Only red wire on the GSR harness that i used. I was told to do this by a ht member.
Is it possibly not fully in the ecu clip. or Is this the wrong place to run this wire.
Thank you.

Re: How to Wire Knock Sensor?
Run it from the knock sensor to the ECU plug here:
You can't just run it to the GSR harness because there isn't a wire on the other side that goes to the civics ECU plug

Re: How to Wire Knock Sensor?
Yeh unless i have it in the wrong spot in D. I'll have to take a peek. Appreciate the picture and info. It might just not be in all the way..
But running it to the "red" wire on the driver side (gsr harness) is the right wire to splice it into?

Then you have to run it directly to the ECU like hondapartshero mentions. What? You meant running from D3 to passenger side shock tower harness then to the engine harness?

Re: How to Wire Knock Sensor?
no. I was told on the "driver side" tower - near the yellow and black wires there's a "red" wire that i apparently splice a wire into and run it to D3 - That is on my GSR harness - not my D-series.
Where about's would i run it to my passenger side shock tower? I dont have any diagrams of it with it in there. So i didn't know.

1) Splice the KS wire from near the shock tower and run it through the firewall to D3
2) Run from D3 to passenger shock tower to the corresponding pin to engine harness. This is the OEM way.

Re: How to Wire Knock Sensor?
if i do #1, which plug on the shock tower is the right one for the knocksensor? If i splice it into a wire on there.
Is it The D side or my B side?

Re: How to Wire Knock Sensor?
You don't have D3 wired on your civic harness unless you have a Vx model civic. So you have to splice the gsr engine harness. Which is Blue/red KS. Do you have to pass smog emissions or inspections?

Re: How to Wire Knock Sensor?
Ran a wire down from on passenger shock tower 3rd plug(bottom plug) and ran it to D3.
There is a diagram online I'll post in a bit if no one else does, im on my phone.

Re: How to Wire Knock Sensor?
I bought another person’s project a few weeks ago (92 si with obd1 b18c1) and am trying to bring it back to smog legal condition. It had a chipped p72 and I failed smog so I replaced it with a stock p72 and now it’s throwing code 23.
I haven’t checked to see if the knock sensor is actually there but the hard part would be wiring it up if it is.
Thoughts?
I diagram would be great.
Thanks!

Re: How to Wire Knock Sensor?
Most likely if it had a chipped P72, then they disabled the knock sensor. Check on the back of the block for the sensor... make sure it's actually connected and the wire isn't just dangling.
You have a couple options if you don't have the KS. Either rob one from another motor (Y8s, B16s, etc should all have them). Or there was a part from Radio Shack (piezo something?) that cost like $2 and someone zip tied to his fuel rail and it mimicked the signal a knock sensor put out.
A lot of people disable the knock sensor because the OEM Honda one is too sensitive and doesn't work. There are more useful devices for monitoring knock, just more expensive. Or you can just read your spark plugs and tune conservatively.

Re: How to Wire Knock Sensor?
Sweet! I checked earlier and I do have a knock sensor.
So you're saying that I run a wire from location #3 on your picture to d3 on the ecu? Sounds easy enough.
Thanks for the help, that was huge!

Re: How to Wire Knock Sensor?
Yeah that's how I did it, just get one of those little plugs that going there. And attach it to the wire so it doesn't fall out of the shock tower. I'm not sure what the deal is with a chipped ecu tho , Might look for it or not I'm not sure bit try er outs.
