How to remove passenger side airbag?
Anyone know how? I took the glove box out and can't really figure it out. There's this rectangular metel thing blocking the airbag. The car is a 96 civic hatch.

You have to remove the dash. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE BATTERY DISCONNECTED BEFORE SCREWING AROUND WITH IT!!!!!!!

Re: How to remove passenger side airbag? (Spade)
you have to remove the whole dash just to take the passenger side airbag out? Please tell me you're kidding. That's a lot of work just to take the airbag out.

you don't have 2 remove the whole dash!! i have done this before b/c my bag was blown so i built a guage pod into it! it is ALOT of work though!
1- take out glovebox
2- take out cover under glovebox
3- that big box you are looking at is your air bag box!
4- there should be a YELLOW WIRE! that is your air bag wire! (disconnect it)
5- there is like 6 nuts that are hard to get 2 to remove box
6- if all else fails follow yellow lume looking wire to your airbox and use common sense!
you could take dash out but that is giving yourself more work than you have 2 do! oh yea and buy some band aids b/c i insure you ... you will have some cuts when your done! hope this helps!

you don't have to ake the whole dash out to remove airbag !
1- take out glovebox - then underpanels
2- look for the yellow lume looking wire and follow it to the end!
3- where that wire ends is your airbag box!
4- there is like 6 nuts to take off and a few braces that hold it in place!
5- don't forget to dissconect it
6- hopefully you have band aids to cover those scratches on your hands!
you could take out the whole dash BUT WHY GIVE YOURSELF SO MUCH MORE WORK!

On my EK....
I had to practically cut that thing out from the top.
It clips in ALL THE WAY AROUND.
The plastic cover you see from the top, it has |\ All the way around it that hold it into the dash. These are solid to and can't be squeezed. Then the actual airbag is pressed into the cover from the bottom with more snaps.
I just cut the dame cover in half, then pryed and chewed it out. That is last on my list of things to never do again.

It wasnt that hard as you guy's made it seem, I read this thread before I removed my airbag thinking it was going to be hard, there were 3 bolts I had to unscrew, Unclip the airbag cover from the dash, then disconnect the yellow wire, took me and my friend about 15mins this was on a 96-98 civic

no you don't have to remove the dash damn its not that hard i paint interiors all day, you take off the glove box and you lay on your back on the floor with a **** load of extensions and unbolt the ************ and take a screwdriver and pry it out not that hard of course after you disconnect the battery

you got lucky. There is no way to unclip my airbag cover from the dash. It has about 30-40 triangle pegs molded to the cover that hold it into the dash opening. The cover would not come off, push off, pry off etc. It had to be cut off.
I still have it. I could sell it, but its pretty useless without the cover since honda doesnt sell the covers by themselves.
I have been thinking about taking 12v to it and just setting it off.

Your taking out your airbag to put in a JDM tray? When is this madness going to end? Well hopefully you never get into a serious accident w/ a passenger in the car. I'm sure they won't appreciate you removing the airbag to put in that oh so stylish and hip JDM tray that they got a nice close-up view of. lol. Oh well that's my $.02.

i agree. unless it's a track car with harnesses, or you never have passengers, i would not take out the airbag just for a stupid jdm tray.
