I think they gotta be heated and pressed - but I've never seen them so don't quote me on that.

Well its not to hard to do this yourself with a basic MAPP gas or Propane torch. Set the pistons on a work bench dome side down and heat the rod where it meets the wrist pin. Watch the color of the rod, it will turn a dark purple then a light color again. Now, immediatly the wrist pin can be pushed out the other side using a piece of wood dowel or a similar type of pushing tool. If it still wont budge apply the heat for a little longer. Hopefully this helps.

Wow i dont know about that whole heating up thing. I say take it to your local machine shop and have them pressed out. Thats the correct way of doing it. If you do this heating stuff you might make them out of round and can cause the wrist pin not going back in correctly.

I would hope not. I have never had to heat up a piston/rod to take out wrist pins. My press does it no problem.

Eh, I've seen some machine shops heat them up before pressing...though it's a bit different of a heating process than a propane torch where it meets the con rod...

A lot of Top engine builders and machine shops use whats called a rod heater for installing removing wrist pins. Using just a press can crack/damage the piston. The method I posted earlier is a just an economical way to do it.. its LIGHT heat.. Im not talking about getting the assembly cherry red. Do whatever you want.. either way works fine.. Press or heat.

i don't know **** about building motors but in the previews for the omniman build he heats the pins to put them on the piston, I guess there is more than one way to skin a cat...lol

Re: (egsleepercivic)
its a small heater with coils in it... you sit the rod in and heat it up w/o touching the coils so u dont warp the rod (dont heat with propane tourch) and thats to seperate the pin from the piston on an interference fit piston.. at machine shop we press the pin out if it is interference fit.
