That's what he's going to have to do unless he can find the cable and pull it with a pair of needle nose or something...
Pry that bitch up.
Sux, but oh well, 'tis is life.
EDIT:
PS: You can try drilling it..but you don't know how well it's fucked up...I'd drill and cut the latch out...it'd be pretty fucked up either way... Sorry.

im confused.. on your 2nd post you side "not the trunk latch, but the drivers side latch"
Do you mean the drivers side door doesnt open because the lock is messed up from someone braking in? Why not just open the passenger door, get in, and then open your door from the inside and figure it out from there? If your trunk lock is messed up i dont really know what to tell you short of drilling it out and pretty much destroying your trunk lid

that's cheaper then a trunk lid. my lid was already damaged from thieves, so i made a sardine can out of it.

Re: (FlatBrokeHatch)
is there any way you can get inside the trunk through the cabin? my ej1 has a lock for the backseat to lower (above the backseat). if you can do that, you should be able to rip some trim away from the latch and figure out the rod/latch situation. if you can't get through, i'd say take hondaman 1320's advice lol. hey, i guess it's been done
