Default How much would you pay

i found a 1992 civic 4dr. it is a five speed i think with 199XXX on the motor he tells me the body is in fair shape it has ac am/fm stero casste and he wants a 1,000 bones for it. i went on bluebook.com and it said the value was 1800. should i try to get him to lower the price or just forget it. and if u say lower the price how much would u pay

Go out and check it out for yourself. If the paint and body are at least fair then i would prolly consider that its worth 1,000. Did he say if there was anything wrong mechanically??

General rule of thumb..if it runs it's worth 1000 bucks.
EDIT: He wants half of what it;s worth. I damn sure would'nt argue over a coupld hundred dollars when he's already selling it for pretty much half of what it's worth.

I just got my '94 for $1200. It had 178,000 on it, and it wouldn't start. Her mechanic told her it needed a new engine. When I got it home I found that it only needed an ignition coil. The damn thing didn't burn a drop of oil, and ran damn good before I did the swap. If the oil has been changed regularly, or you want to do a swap, I say $800 to $1000 for a '92 would be good.

$1000 not bad for 92. make sure it still runs...and the body is decent.

For a grand I'd get it if it is in decent shape and runs decent. Whats the worse that happens, you have to drop $350 on a good motor, clean it up some, and maybe do some minor maintance and you got a decent commuter car.

Yeah you could probally talk him down a lil bit, but I'll go along with the masses and say "If it runs, it's worth $1k"

Will this be a project car, or just cheap & fun daily beater? Just curious

sounds like a good deal for a grand. as long as everything is in order i'd go for it (runs good, clean interior, solid body). but i'd say the suspension, and brakes are probably due to be replaced, along with a complete tune up, and just some love.

i wouldn't buy it without taking it to a mechanic first to give it the once over - unless of course, you know what to look for.
