How long does it take you guys to take off your intake manifold?
Ok, it doesn't matter if you own a VX, CX, DX, EX, Del Sol, or whatever civic, but I'm wondering how long it takes you to take off your intake manifold? I might be doing this on my Civic VX and am curious how much time I should allocate to do this? One guy on this board said it took him three hours and he wasn't sure if he did anything wrong or if it really takes that long. So thus the question.
It always takes me 3x as long to do anything the first time. So if it took me 3 hrs, it would take me 1 hr the next time (yeah, I label and tag everything so I'm a bit **** about stuff like that).
So how long? Be realistic about your times. And if it took you three hours, does that include a 30 minute phone or pizza break?

Just allocate a Saturday for it.
It depends how hardworking you are, depends on if you run into problems, depends on if any bolts are stuckc, depends depends depends - way too many variables.
Like my friend can do **** a ****-load faster than I can, even if we've both done it before, and I got another friend who can do the same, but it takes him all day to change spark plugs (exaggeration, but he's been working on his SR20 swap for like a year now, and it's not exactly hard).
Shouldn't take you more than 30-60 min to remove it...but if it does, it does.
Like I said, just set a Saturday (where you have all day) aside and go to work.

I hear ya.... I'm working on a engine swap on my 84 Supra (putting a turbo engine in it). I started in '98 and I'm still working on it - 2007. I just haven't done anything in a few years due to work, friends, family, and stuff like that.

Even with my motor on a stand it still took me about 20 minutes with regular hand tools, and im not talking an extensive selection of tools. 1/4 - 3/8 drive with an extension and a few 6/12pt combo wrenches. I can't imagine doing that while the motor is in the bay with limited access lol. I need tools

tools are always a bonus...
No i did not acount for gasket removal but usually some brake clean and a chissle makes the job pretty easy.

I use a nice sharp razor blade... it scrapes off the old gasket really easy.

It took me 16hrs for my swap, excluding gathering the engine/proper parts. Ran perfect on the first crank, probably had something to do with my timeframe.
But that has nothing to do with replacing the intake manifold. I just thought I'd contribute to keep this thread around because I'm about to swap one out myself anyway.

I will have to keep that in mind for the next time. It took me entirely too long to scrape gasket last time.
