Icon6 How hard to replace the Catback???

Hello.

My 00 civic EX 2dr (137k) got a CEL by which the catalystic converter is malfunction and also the rest of pipe are seriously rust and have some holes. The shop asked me around $600 to do the job. As a college student I can't afford a couple hundred right now. What I found at the ebay are $120 for the entire stainless catback and $100 for converter.

First of all is it possible to do that in my garage? How hard to replace the huge metal pipes by myself? Is there any special tools for the job?

In addition I have a kind of stupid question. I found the cheap catalystic converter, which doesn't have a hole for O2 sensor, on eaby but that is really cheap like $30 included shipping cost.

Here is a plan. I drill a hole to the cheap converter and then weld the proper-sized nut by J-B weld which is a chemical stuff to be able to attach metal to metal. Would the idea be stupid again?

Thanks.

I would check a junkyard to see if they have any. Your plan might work but I wouldn't recommend it.

i did pretty much the same thing on my 99 coupe a couple years ago, just me and one of my freinds hooked it up, it can be done on ur own, and as for the cat i took mine to a muffler shop after it was all hooked up and it took less than 10 minutes to drill the hole and weld the o2 bung in

lol ahaha dont do that and dont buy a cat off ebay either. You run a SERIOUS risk of not passing emissions. Just buy a cat from ur local autozone, pepboys, etc. and have a shop weld it in. should be no more than $40 for the welding job.
