Default How-To: Easy headlight clean

Well I had posted this with my Del Sol and the headlights were pretty bad off and came out looking good. I'll have to find those pictures again, but I just did it on my EK headlights which weren't as bad with the same results.

*Note: Yes I know my car is dirty. I park next to a big tree and it needs washed everyday.

Materials needed:

Toothpaste
Microfiber cloths

Ok so my headlights looked like this:

So first off wash your headlights off. A little Windex gets the job done. Then take your toothpaste and spread a nice bit out on your cloth. Begin massaging it into the headlight with a bit of pressure. Let it sit until dry.

Wipe off with a clean cloth. And walla, your done. I plan on adding a little wax later to polish them up better, but still happy with results.

Nice. Way to improvise/budget clean.

There is another way to do this...

Wet sand 1500-2000 grit
Polish w/ rubbing compound
Buff

It works really well.

Flouride isn't what cleaned your headlights.

It was the baking soda.

"johnny! Whered all the toothpaste go!"

nice write up.
Are those lenses plastic or glass?
would this trick work on Ej lamps?
Mine are decent but, anything this easy with improvement is worth doing.

Na I'm saying make sure it's fluoride because it is grainy.

Fluoride isn't grainy. You cannot, in fact, buy toothpaste that isn't "organic" that doesn't contain fluoride. The grainy stuff is baking soda, used as a polish. Fluoride that goes into toothpaste is smooth, concentrated gel.

So, once again, I have to repeat myself.

Is chemistry not mandatory in schools now?

Are you having problems with your glass headlights fogging?

My headlights look like the after pics
Just checking for future reference because it doesnt sound like toothpaste is going to like glass.

It won't work for glass. On the flip side, glass won't ever look like that unless it spends some time in a sandstorm or in the ocean.

If your glass headlights start to fog up on the outside, you've got bigger problems than any polish can fix.
