I didn't do any hard braking till about 250 miles were put on. I still waited for 500 miles before I got a full taste, , out of them. They now have about 700 miles and work perfect.

It`s my understanding that a few hard stops are the key to successful break in procedure...That`s what I practice and it works fine, but everyone has their own opinion

wow two totally different opinions? Guess I'll go some where in between brake hard a few times and then take it easy for a few hundred miles.

EVERY shop I've ever worked at says you NEED hard breaking to seat the pads properly...
my old boss used to say get it up to 30 and SLAM on the brakes... not so they lock up but so they stop as quickly as possible..
that's the procedure I've ALWAYS followed... never had a problem...
I like to get a couple of slow brakings in before the slammer but... my boss went from the bay to a parking lot w/o stopping got it upto 30 then JAMMED them... that's how he ALWAYS did it... however several mechanics have said that's not neccisary... you just need a couple of hard stops... nothing too dramatic.

I've heard its best to start at a low speed and stop fast. Then increase your speed and stop fast again. I wouls start at 10 mph then 20, then 30 and work my way up to 60 mph.

You may find about 50 different ways to break in your pads on the internet. That's just what heppens when there are so many opinions floating around.
This is one that I found by Oscar Jackson:

Re: How do you break in your brakes? (PupaScoopa)
i would recommend "breaking in" brakes before your rotors are hot. (ex. dont do it after a long drive)
in my case where i changed both rotors and pads, i drove back home and "tried" them out in a small street. i ended up warping the rotors now i need to resurface both rotors

depending on the kind of material the pads are made of depends on the break in procedure..im sure the box the pads came in will have proper directions
in the past ive used the hard breaking rule but never locking up
