...carefull what you post. It's like explaining how to break into a car without making noise. Lots of scumbags reading here.

use your old speedo- if you mess with the odometer it will no longer work. I dont think its something you can just roll back like that. As soon as you roll it manually your break it or something like that.
or
Just mark how many miles are on your old odometer, and how much are on the new when u install it. Then using this nifty theory called math u can keep track of your miles.
I have swapped my cluster 3 times, never touched the odometer tho, *pretty* sure its a felony to do ANYTHING to the odometer.

Re: (turbotime)
its only illegal if used to falsify records, or to lead a potential buyer into believing the false mileage. plus.... at least here in tx, after 120,000, they stop counting how many miles are on the vehicle, and is no longer important.

Believe it or not, it actually used to, in the age of cable driven speedometers.... not anymore, tho.
to the op.... like has been said.... easiest thing to do is to swap the entire speedo assembly. There are times that you can't really do this (like gsr cluster into an eg, etc...).... those times, yeah, you can roll the odometer. Yes, it does work afterward if done correctly. Yes, it probably is illegal. Are you going to get caught at it? Probably won't be a problem if you're just rolling the new cluster to match the mileage in the old one. No one likes an odometer that is too low for the actual miles

My dad was telling me that you used to be able to turn them back with a drill. But yeah it's illegal. As for the DMV after 100K miles or 10 years it is exempt and thats all they need to know.

Re: How do u adjust the mile counter? (chugs)
You should be able to pull out the old odometer unit and install it into the new cluster. The hardest part your gonna have is dealing with the needle. Need to make sure it goes back on the new one like it came off. Or your speeds will be off.

My opinion ask a pro(and I mean some one like a service tech not your average scam artist) when you mess with the law you usually get bitten. And I'm correct messing with the odometer is a felony not sure but I'd be careful

SHUT UP
Dont talk unless you know what the expletive your talking about. Its not illegal untill he claims his actual mileage is the mileage of the new odometer. Usually new/used clusters come with a sticker you put in the doorjam, to let others know.
