Default How do I break in new pads/rotors?

I put on some new oem rotors and nothing-special pads tonight, just wondering what to do to break these puppies in.

normal braking, not slamming on the brakes

Break them in? Just go really slowly ( like 5 mph) and stomp the brakes 2-3 times to make sure they're seated. After that, just drive like you normally would on them.

I always thought you needed to go easy on them for the first 200 miles, as in no hard braking at all. *shrugs*

Never heard of that. Guess my methods no good.

I will continue to give them a few good stomps when I install them to make sure they're seated correctly.

My method

- Brake gradually from ~50-30, 3-4 times to get everything up to temp.
- Get it up to ~60 and bring it back down to ~20, stepping on it pretty good. Repeat 2 or 3 times.
DO NOT COME TO A COMPLETE STOP
- Drive for a little while to let the brakes cool.

it depends on the pads...and rotor set up

there are some that needs to be slammed as hard as possible at 15-20 mph

and some just drive normal

Those were the directions given when I had my powerstop rotors, but now I have oem ones. You're sure to do the same thing?

Yes, thats the correct method. Take the car to like 30, touch the brakes lightly, so they bed in properly. go from like 50 brake to 10mph or so, and don't stop completely. Do this for I guess 10 minutes, just makin sure they work fine, and then after a bit, let em cool for a few. Don't do any hard slamming braking for the first 200 miles. Note: Any braking at 95mph is considered hard, and it may vibrate with new pads. Not that I did this of course.

I've used it for "higher" performance pads suck as Hwak and Axxis, this even worked on my Geo metro with solid rotors and stock pads.
