Totally the wrong place for this, Google if you must or simply go to school or an apprenticeship(best way). Or get lucky and have a family member/friend hire you

Most companies these days like their employees to be able to use proper grammar.

You can goto tech school and pay all that $$

But, cars nowadays tell you whats wrong with them. So pretty much all you are is a part changer. The computer will pull up where/what part needs to be changed.

Long gone are the mechanics making 25/hr as part changers are making 14-16/hr

That just simply isn't true. Modern diagnostic equipment is great, but you still need to be able to troubleshoot. A scan tool will give you a really good idea as to where to look, but you still need to determine if the part is bad, if it's a wiring issue, or a mechanical issue.

You can allways try a commutnity college, if it does have an Automotive techician course, much cheaper than UTI or any other vocational school just takes longer to go thru all the courses.

Oh I agree,

But my post was just a generalization of the industry now over years ago before the days of scan tools showing you the path and real mechanics who had to troubleshoot.

EDIT: I know a few Honda mechanics who told me not to even look into working at a dealership. Before you get to a flat rate, you will have to work your butt off for little pay.

There are shops in my area paying $35/hour for fleet mechanics to work on gasoline engine. They want someone with just a few years and ASE certified. Get your foot in there for $20/hour easy. Also, heavy equip tech jobs pay big money like 6 digits $X00,000 but you will need some training or experience.

that is an overly simplistic way to look at getting a job. you need certifications to be a tech, especially at a dealership and not a privately owned garage. Dealerships have tons of people at all different levels apply every day, you're gonna have to give them a REAL good reason to dump money into some new guy in hopes he can someday do a job that 50% of the other applicants have been doing for ten+ years. first decide what you want to focus on, diesel, japanese, european, domestic, bikes. find out what it is you want to do. then look up what kind of certs are required. to be anything other than bottom of the bucket you need lots of experience and time management skills. get in at a local shop while going to school for some real training. after you are confident you can actually do dealership quality work, go apply. good luck, you're gonna need it.
