horsepower
Yea i have 99 civic ex
d16y8 motor and it's stock for now.
i want a little more horsepower so i just added an exhaust so far.
i want to add a cold air intake, but i heard i would get more horsepower
if i just added a drop in K&N air filter.
please help or any other suggestions for horsepower.

no it's not it's a waste. don't bother with an exhaust unless you're making room for all the exhaust gas coming from the turbo. i/h/e on a sngle cam is not worth the $$

you will notice a difference if you get a quality intake such as Aem or something. ebay ones are junk. i know it doesnt seem like theres a difference but there is. now obviously if your looking into getting an intake your not looking for a major hp gain like you would get with a turbo, or swap. so dont worry about everyone here telling you not to waste your money. youll notice almost the same gain as you got with an exhaust, assuming you bought a quality one.

AEM is what i found to work the best. HP gains are only like 6-10 hp depending on application with the exceptions of the extent of your upgrades. I noticed my MPG go up cause it was breathing alot better...

It wasnt stock, it was working in conjunction with a fully built head with stage 3 p&p and a 4 angle valve job...

H-T White Ops
<-- 1998 EX coupe.
I've had an AEM CAI and an AEM SRI on the car. Neither gave even a little more power. The CAI made the car louder and the SRI made it lose bottom end.
Take out the resonator in the bumper if you want it louder. Same effect as a CAI, but without so much of the risk of damage.
Thank god I came to my senses and replaced my stolen CAI (and POS replacement SRI) with a stock airbox. I'd been wanting to get rid of the CAI for awhile, but couldn't find a stock airbox locally (had one on the east coast that my parents would not send out to me). Luckily thieves made me get up off my butt by stealing other stuff I would have liked to kept.

Then "6-10 horsepower" claims are not really applicable when you're talking about a stock Civic EX, now is it?
OP, save your pennies and get a swap or a turbo if you want to get power. Do things right the first time and don't throw your money away. For now, maybe look into fixing little problems on the car until you save up for the engine you want or the turbo you want.

Re: (NOFX)
It's a damn filter and a tube. And we're not talking bout a built type r or anything we ARE talking about a stock single cam. So purchase an ebay intake or make your own tube and put a filter on it.

leave it stock save for something worthwhile like suspension/ brakes. or if you're looking for power engine swap/ turbo it/ nitrous like a 50 shot or something.

Re: (.Grimace)
whale ***** intake is the only intake i've ever seen make real power. most of those other pipe intakes (AEM included) just make you lose it. and to all those people arguing that AEM is the best, me and my friend made one from autozone pipes and put an AEM sticker on it. sold it for $70. it cost us like $20 to make. the kid was an idiot though so i don't feel bad about it. its basically just pipes. so if you can some how justify spending $200 on a pipe just like all the others, let me know.
