you said you don't know why ppl buy them. Since you owned one, whether you've sold it since or not, you bought one. Therefore, you do know from personal experience why people buy them.

Re: Hood problem!! help (sohcvtec97)
your bumper may be warped try to find new clips that hold the grill in place yours looks kinda low may help close the gap a little but if you bought an aftermarket oem bumber (not genuine honda) those never seem to fit i have been through 3 finally just bought the honda one and it was fine good luck

18 replies and nothing looking to the obvious...i wonder why this place is called honda 'tech'. Start with the basics. First you have'nt said if it is hard to close the hood. If the hood is difficult to close (and sometimes even if its not), you should first try adjusting the 2 rubber stops that are ment to adjust the gap. There is one on either side of the radiator support, just like a screw they twist to go up and down to adjust your hood gap. Try that and post if it helps, if not there are other adjustments that can be done.

Re: Hood problem!! help (stoopid monkey)
The weatherstripping makes no difference.
1. Check to see if your core/radiator support is bent.
If yes get a comealong and pull it back out/replace it/go to body shop
If no proceed to step 2
2. Lower the hood latch. Loosen the 3 bolts and drop it as low as it can go.
If still a gap...
3. Adjust the rubber bumper cushions the hood sits on as low as they can go or take them out.
If still a gap
4. Look under the hood where the grill mounts. One the side (not the clips on top. the 2 on the side) there are metal tabs. Bend them up slightly to lift the grill up. Dont do to much because it will create a little gap uder the grill between the bumper and grill.
if still a gap
5. sell car
Most likely the car was in an accident or doesnt have OEM parts and thats why it sits like that. This should get rid of the gap a lot and atleast cut it inhalf. I had a similar situation and after all of that the gap is pretty small. I could get it smaller but now the hood like sits on the headlights. Try those out. I can guarantee youll see an improvement.

Re: Hood problem!! help (TurboEM1)
it seems to me that ur hood is sitting about right because the fenders are equal to it. I would assume ur rad core support is bent, and thats why the bumper is low. Is there a gap on the side where the bumper attaches to the fenders? If so, then ur rad core support is bend down.

Re: Hood problem!! help (EG2driver)
Wow......all that are bitching really need to learn to look at pictures a little better. It is obvious he is missing the WEATHERSTRIPPING that goes to the hood, I can see into his engine bay.
You can see from the lines of the sides of the hood that its fits perfectly, it lines up with each quarter panel with perfect gap on each side.
IT IS MISSING THE WEATHERSTRIPPING.
tell ya what, take a pic of you hood up, from underneath. I bet there is no weather stripping.
Trust me, I've owned an EK I bought a carbon fiber hood, it looked just like his pic cause it doesn't have weather stripping, trust me I know.
man...newbies should not be allowed to post for like a few months. You guys have an average of 30 posts and all of a sudden you know everything about hondas.

Re: Hood problem!! help (mike1114)
It's definately more than weatherstripping. Maybe he's missing the weather stripping, but damn, that car did not roll off the line with that much retarded gap. It should not sit like that. Perhaps the bumper cover does not have the upper screws holding it up. Or maybe the wind resistance from that brick wall of a lip has gradually warped it down.
Check out this pic:
(my apologies, I don't know whos car this is)
That's how the front of the hood needs to meet the bumper cover. And that's exactly how my unmolested 98 looks in the front as well.

Re: Hood problem!! help (EG6_GUY)
Its not the weather stripping. I have a 98 lx with a cf hood with NO weather stripping on it and I don't have that kind of gap. besides the weathrstripping will not fix that gap. the weather stripping is black and if you put the weather stripping on it will look the same. Some of you make no sense!!!!. It looks like the bumber and grill is not OEM like someone mentioned above, cuz the gap between the hood and fenders looks perfect. Try finding a oem white bumber in a junkyard.
