Default hood gas spring conversion

Does any body know if the EG hatch spring gas for the rear glass can be used on the hood of a EK?

I looked for gas springs used for rear doors of vans but are too big for the hood.

i would like to do this on my EK...

Those aren't springs, they're an oil-filled gas shock. Huge difference.

And no, that's not hard. That's actually a kit you're looking at made by Tein. You cannot do it with a carbon fiber or fiberglass hood, they're too brittle and light.

It's a kit. It comes with brackets, ball joints, and shocks. I think NRG makes a knockoff ... that unfortunately costs just as much as the Tein one.

isnt it reassuring that the strongest body part on your front end was replaced with a fiberglasses skeleton and something that you can see sunlight through? nah i love it man saved at least 20 pounds

Don't use these on carbon hoods. I've seen them crack in half from the stress of someone closing it with a damper on it.

yes I know there's a specifi kit for it.

but i'm ghetto and would like to try if the EG hatch rear glass stands can hold the weight of my stock hood.

My hood stand just got twisted the other day and there are a lot of surplus from japan sitting around here...

who knows, try it, I'm sure the hatch weighs more than a hood

ok i was really eager to do this conversion. And so i was successful!

the hatch dampers were long enough to move the hood all the way up, unlike the tein kit which has limited extension. I can open my hood all the way up, and also 3/4 way up.

I used a pair of eg hatch rear glass dampers, fabricated brackets nd bolted everything on.

spent $18 for this mod... :D

the ball joints at either ends are included in the EG hatch dampers. I just custom fabricated the brackets where the ends bolt right in to.

Password jdm makes a kit also, you can adjust the valves in them so they'll work with cf hoods. Might be worth checking them out if any of you have cf hoods

I think passwords kit is more expensive than the tein kit.
