honda cancer
yo, ive been seaching for a car for about 2 months now and i notice some of these hatchs for sale have some rust mostly on the rear 1/4's. it looks as if all of them have this problem . i was wondering the proper way of repairing this. i know you can cut and weld a new fender, how expensive can this actually be? is there any other way getting rid of it? what are some of the prices you guy had to pay? please post before and after pics of what you did.

Re: honda cancer (frosteg6)
yeah most of them come with rear quarter rust. Mine did, its a 92 cx. I just cut around the area of the rust. I use fiberglass in its place. Mine wasnt really that big of a rust maybe only a 1" wide. Wish i have pics of after and before. It really isnt that hard to do. Others use sheetmetal. But it depends on how big the rust area is. I just stuck with fiber glass.

going along with this thread:
Why do most cars have these rear 1/4's attached to nearly the whole roof. Why don't they make rear fenders so if there's any rust, we can just replace it?

So theres not a stupid *** line across the back of the car where more body panels meet.
Oh yeah, I paid $1000 for rust removed on both rear quarters, one door and the trunk 2 years ago, replaced with new metal. It's now rusting again, so f#@$ that, I'm going fiberglass from now on.

I'm going fiberglass crazy on my Accord this summer. Cutting out every rust spot, fiberglassing, and doing a little other body work while I'm at it.

Metal rusts. Fiberglass doesn't.

Absolutely. The fender liner in the rear puddles water at the top of the fender arch and it sits there and rusts through from the back. You don't see the complete damage until it's peeking out the other side.
So after you get it fixed, drill a hole in the liner or just cut a chunk out of it. Viola! Problem solved .

Re: (frosteg6)
It's possible. The "rubber cover" can trap dirt and moisture and over time cause rust. But... In order for that to happen there would have to be bare metal for there to be rust.
If anyone is interested i'm sell a 93 si hatch with 81k miles with no "cancer"

Re: (delux247)
anyone using POR 15 for the backsides of their panels. I love that ****, one of the few paints thats when poured thick can be tapped. They make some great puddy stuff too. I have a Coupe, and have been lucky enough to stay rust free... for the most part.
