Hmm which engine?
I apologize if this was answered in the FAQS. But I was wondering which is a recommended engine for a 99/00 coupe - B18, B20, H22?? Or anything else?

This is all base on your personal preference really to be honest. We can only offer you opinions but in the end you choose. In my case, I was on a budget. I choose the b20b non-vtec because I wanted to be able to use regular gas. Plus I needed the torque that my 1.6L could not produce. I live in the hills and the b20 has the torque I was looking for, I am quiet happy.

Re: Hmm which engine?
premium fuel is recommended as far as the DOHC vtec engines are concerned. you can get away with the moose **** in the SOHC's because they are much lower compression.
what are your goals for the car? this is what we need before we can recommend you any engine.
for what it's worth, i agree with kaiba the only problem is hood clearance.

Re: Hmm which engine?
The J is cool and all. Really not that expensive. Good power, but then you run into that pesky little problem of being uber nose heavy.. good for drag, not so hot in the turns. The other thing to consider with the J is the aftermarket support for it if you want more power down the road as it is not even close to that of the D/B/H/K motors. Cool swap to say you did it, but the K just makes more sense. Then again, going with a motor that was meant to go in that chassis makes the most sense... I say B FTW in EF/EG/EK.

Re: Hmm which engine?
Im only asking this for what I should do in the future when I am able to buy a car and get my license. I am looking foward to hopefully buying a 99/00 coupe Si so I really don't know much about all this modding stuff... I just want a vtec engine that is fine with regular gas, fast (maybe a decent fast for beating the ricers on the road?), just something that is reliable, moddable, fast. (Not trying to get a perfect engine but something that has a nice sound to it and is fast like i see on youtube videos.

well i know i am going to get burned for saying this but o well, i had an 00 si with h22 turbo and that was the best car i EVER had. i had a vx hatch with a gsr and NO COMPARISON what so ever. Now on the flip side they are not an easy motor to swap and yes you can build any so many motors to equal the H but i truly love the h22 motors and that is just me. Build what you can afford and what you like none of our opinions should matter much cause there just opinions. My opinion is be bold and be different ha ha

ha ha thanks, i miss that car soooooooooooo much. i'd build one all over again any day even with the same motor, but like i said i am TRULY an h22 fan. it drove great, and i did not have all of the steering issues everyone said i would. i upgraded my brakes and had a very good suspension so it was not some cheap thrown together build i can say that

i was going to have golden eagle re sleeve the cylinders of the block so the motor could hold more boost. the block was built accept for the sleeves. and i wanted to run a limited slip differential transmission to help with traction. without running street slicks or something the car had so much torque and power it would just spin the tires through the gears. i had a hard time getting the car to grip but when it did WOOOHAAA
