Default HKS Hipermax Damper II coilover

I am in the market of looking for a set of coilovers. So far, I have looked into Buddy Club Racing Spec and that's about it. They are pricy, but I would also like to check out other alterenatives giving the same quality and price range.

I did a search and nothing of HKS Hipermax Damper II coilover came up. There is a set of them on sale in my town, they are used and about a grand less then the brand new BCRS damers. I am not sure how old or how beat up these are, I need to check them out in person.

I drive my car all year round and eventually, I will track my car occasionally for fun. I like to do things (I try to) right the first time that's why I need to ask pros for their input while I try to do some homework on my own. For streetability, I don't mind the harshness.

Judging by the brand new price, I am thinking that HKS Hipermax Damper II coilover is on another level compare to BCRS dampers? Being more than a grand and whatnot. (however, this particular damper has different pricing under the same name, some say 2750, some say 1850...) I know somethings can be purchased used but I am not sure if it is the case with suspensions.

Thanks in advance guys.

Did some research and found out that Version 1 is the expensive type, where the other is around 1800. But still very little reviews on this set.

Hopefully some H-T members would have some experience with such brand.

I have them
I love the ride with them on the street
I'm not a suspension guru, so I don't know how they compare with other coilovers
but they are great for me, I would definitely buy them again

Thanks for the input guys.

I checked them out in person, seems fair but missing adjusting *****, and the sales person said it was only a couple months old, but doesn't seem like it.

And there was no way to tell if it was a regular Hipermax II, or a Hipermax II Version 1. The guy didn't know what he was talking about, nor did he know there was a Version 1.

V-GRIP! EG & RoaringTurtle, do you guys have the regular or Version 1?

Thanks

Version 1 goes for 2750+/- USD brand new.

The used one in the shop looks like that. But I have never seen a Version 1 in person, and HKS website doesn't have it, and some other website just use the generic photo (like the one you have posted) so there is no way of telling.

For a 1000 dollar difference in the two, I would expect some dramatic difference (i.e. aluminum body as oppose to chromed steel body.)

But Version 1 I believe is too rich for my blood, that's close to 4G CDN... perhaps an overkill for a street car.

I've never ridden in a car with HKS suspension, but for the money, I'd go with the Tein Type Flex. I got mine brand new for $1200 and they also have the upper pillow ball mounts. I drive my car every day and I love how it rides. Just my $0.02.

HKS Hipermax (I) has only 10-way valve adjustments. Hipermax Damper II's are 30-way, slightly more aggressive valving, & stiffer spring rates on some applications.

Like Roaring Turtle & V-Grip said.....they ride damn good and the quality is a lot better than most of the coilovers out there. Too bad the springs rates (9kg/7kg)aren't that stiff or else I'd keep them.

I was pretty sure I had the damper II's, good to hear I was right
hmm makes me wonder if I have 9k/7k spring rates on mine
it probably is considering the ride quality is great on the street

hey, man I have been in some cars that had these suspensions. Only one thing I can say is that either the Tein Flex or the Hks dampers will perform wonderfully. later.

Daryl_sp....i totally agreee...I like the spring rate on the car...but sometimes...i just wish it was a bit stiffer. for the street and occasional thrash...its coo...but...i'm leaning more towards getting a Tein RA set...
we'll see..

Here's the spring rates for the Hipermax Damper II

NA1: 8kg/9kg
DC2: 9kg/7kg
EK9: 8kg/5kg
EK4: 8kg/5kg
EG6: 8kg/6kg

V-Grip: I was going to swap out the HKS springs for Tein springs, but they didn't have the ones I was looking for in stock. So I called it a day with the Type RA's
