Believe it or not the original honda cat is not that restrictive and will work well for most applications.
i would just put a 30 dollar test pipe in there rather than an expensive new cat. just my .02

Re: high flow cat or test pipe?
Your better off with a cat. A stock one should flow well enough for your set up. If you need to have a hi flow, go with the magnaflow cat.

Re: high flow cat or test pipe?
i havent heard anything about carsounds cats, but random tech does make a high flow cat and im pretty such its 50 state legal.
but everytime i have heard the es oval it sounds like a damn fart can.
its not worth the money, the power you get is hardly any for what you pay.

^^ pretty sure they only get smashed for street racing, they would most likly get only a ticket, for illegal crap or, get impounded, but smashed dont think so.
i know what you mean tho, i got pulled over in irvine for some bull **** and get a $450 speeding ticket, when i was only 8 over.
but they are teaching cops what to look for now,

Magnaflow high flow cat. Only go with a test pipe if you have to.
On my car, I have a 2 year old magnaflow high flow cat that is breaking apart inside... must have scraped one too many speed bumps too hard. I'm also working on a turbo project. I'm pretty much forced to go with a test pipe or face spending $100 on a new cat every year or two. I would rather stick with a cat though.
A high flow cat will for the most part make your exhaust sound the same as it does with a stock cat.
P.S. They've done dyno testing on a 99-00 Civic Si with a high flow cat, stock cat, and test pipe. Test pipe only gained 1WHP over the high flow cat. High flow cat is more worth it, since you're not breaking the law and you won't be spewing as much carbon monoxide.

I have a Random Tech cat on my car and haven't had any problems over the last 75k...
Having a test pipe will make your car sound raspy... I'm not quite sure why you are worried about bang for the buck with a test pipe/cat though when you have a no name header on your car... No other bolt-on will improve performance better than a quality header...

Re: high flow cat or test pipe?
I have a Megan Racing header. It's not the best, but it's not no-name either.
Also, i'm working on a turbo project. I also have a D-series. Header selection is limited. I am not buying a Bisimoto header for $1000+ to gain 10 WHP... especially when i'm doing a turbo project.
I never mentioned bang-for-the-buck. I'm not quite sure what you got that from.

just gotta keep your stuff legit, that way you can laugh at them when they wasted all that time to find noithing.

Re: high flow cat or test pipe?
I understand that having a test pipe will make it a little raspy. You are not understanding that if I installed a test pipe it would be done reluctantly. The only reason I was considering getting one is because I suspected that the cat was only going to do it again if I purchase a new one.

My references to raspiness and bang for the buck were for the OP...

Re: high flow cat or test pipe?
What about the over all torque curve on a cat vs. testpipe ? I know the test pipe gives you about +1hp at peak, but doesnt it also murder your mid range torque in the process ? I have never run a test pipe on an N/A car before.
