i was told by a friend that if I wanted to upgrade my lights to HID's I would have to get different headlight housings because it will melt the plastic. Is this true? I only want to run 8000k kit. please help.

if you install it correctly you'll be fine. just pay attention to how you take your stock headlights out.

You will blind the crap out of incoming traffic. Look in the lighting forum, research HID projector retrofits

it will most likely melt if use in a cheap ebay headlights. havent seen but that is what i was told. OEM headlights should be fine

Guys! HIDs run cooler then Halogen, so how in the hell is it going to melt the housing if your halogens didnt. Common sense and lots of wrong information going around.

ive never had a problem with mine and ive had mine for over a year not even the ballasts just my 2cents

i have HIDs on my OEM CTR headlights. why are people so scared that the bulbs will burn your headlights? idiots! dont listen to people who dont even have them.

I had projectors in my previous car and on the housing it even said not to install HID KIT. So I did it anyways, and I didn't have any problems. The lense of the headlights weren't NEAR as hot as the halogens.

It's like the "turn off your cell phone" at the gas pump MYTH. Even the retailers believe the crap sometimes.

No, it won't melt your headlight housings. But you will blind everyone driving in front of you as well as going the opposite way of you with your crappy PnP HID kit. Oh, and you're a ricer.

Do it once, and do it right: get a retrofit or stick to Halogen bulbs.

im on "doit once! doit rite idea" but, ive had no issues with my plug and play kit. noones flashed me... i think people on here just want to cry about anything.. ive gotten flashed in my wife's fit when i forget to turn high beams off(with have stock light) but my eg hatch has pnp kit and i havent had one issue....i even pass cops all the time and they are dicks around here and havent had a problem...

It is true that HID run cooler than the stock bulbs, even so for our 55w kits.

So why do the ebay lamps melt with HID you ask?
The quality of the optics is so bad, so improperly designed, that the incorrectly focused intensity of the HID ouput melts the front of the lamp or the bezel next to the projector. OEM projector lamps can run HID all day and not do this because there is actual research and development put into those products. That is why a single OE lamp costs twice as much as an ebay pair of projector lamps.

wrong, i have cheep ebay lights with hids for almost a year and they are just fine, and several of my friends do as well.

Buy what ever makes you happy. And what you can afford. Not many people are capableof opening their headlights up and doing all that work. Plus the gang of $ behind it also.

um okay i just say that is what i hurd and never witness it BUT

Even this guy say so and i remember somebody on here complain that it did melt their lamp so they had to get a new one. i guess it just the material that the makers use.

The things is hids run cooler then normal lights.
I have NEVER heard of anyone melting lights with hids
Only when guys run like 100 watt bulbs

Just to add more fuel to the fire, yes, we've seen melting with ebay lamps, we also have many clients running our 55w kits in similar ebay lamps with no problems. It does vary from model to model of lamp. Our recommendation is never to goto the ebay lamps unless you know someone else is running them with actual decent output.... because many go int he opposite direction.

my output with ebay lights with silverstars sucked, thats why i went hids, but my ebay lights with hids, are 10 times better them my buddy with oems and hids, not saying mine are perfect but he throws out a lot more glare.

also op dont run past 6000k
