the d series valve springs from zex, which are compcam valvesprings, work for all d16's, accoring to Mr. Compcam on the phone.

just to add my 2 cents, a ? about valve spring retainers was asked earlier in the post. you dont have to get retainers for the zex springs, the guy from zex told me that if you use titianum retainers that u would have to replace them about every 2 years but that stk retainers will last alot longer. and that was straight from zex. i am running the zex 59300 cam with zex springs and stk retainers and have had no problems.

stk = stock i assume? also, whats kinda times you run, SLOAZZ95? did the cam make a noticable difference? and have you had your car tuned since you installed the cam?

sweet, should be a peppy lil motor. i'm thinkin about getting some headwork done. how much did it cost to get your head milled, and what was your compression afterwards?

My dx build is consisting of this stuff so far in the last 2 weeks

SIR intake box and arm - password hook up
b18a1 TB - bought on ht for 50 bux - coolant bypass
Skunk2 IM - paid 250 almost new locally - matchported for the tb

EX trans (getting rebuilt with 4.9FD and Quaife ATD) - 1300 bux

waiting for

K&N frop in filter - 50 bux anywhere
Hondata IM gasket - 60 bux
DC Sports 4-2-1 Header Stainless - 350 (wanted stainless and to fit stock heat sheilds)
2.5in stainless muffler - stock from ? premuffler style - will be welded dirrectly to the 2-1 collector turning the DC's into a 2.5in header
powercore cat mounted post muffler - 60 bux mounted post muffler
straight with a turn dow stainless 2.5in tubing - all powdercoated black
Hondata s100 tuned by SCA - 400 bux including tune

these mods along with minus accessories will net about 35hp to put me at an even 140 flywheel

with the trans tires and other suspension mods it's gonna be fast with only 1900 or so pounds (I'm not gonna even guesstimate but it should be faster by a good bit than a stock 2000 Lotus Elise (my dream car)

Second motor waiting for build includes everything alreay plus

Bottom end totally balanced and blueprinted with Fidanza Flywheel, UR pulley stock replacments, GX model pistons (waiting for a final answer here) and Moroso oil pan (rewelded)

head consists of Alainz, portflow or DPR head (still not firm here) crower cam and cam gear, crower valvetrain.

Also Tstat Rcap and Del Sol Dual Core radiator

The level of headwork is gonna decide this one by a 20 or so hp margin but peak could be very high but time will tell

This setup will leave few challengers when matched to the rest of the car and should be lots of fun while retaining a very stock appearance to most

My B16A bitch-slapping SOHC set-up is as follows:

D16A6 block and head
P29 pistons - +7.2cc domes from 88-89 Integra
All new rod and main bearings, T-belt, waterpump, seals, etc. etc.
D16Y8 head gasket - metal, and cheaper than the Z6 gasket. 100% identical!
DC 4-2-1 2-piece header I got for $50.00 with wrap on it
Custom 2.25'' exhaust, 2.25'' inlet/oulet Magnaflow cat, muffler intended for a Hemi muscle car with 2.25'' inlet and outlet - super QUIET
Stock intake arm and even filter
Stock head, cam, valvetrain

I run this set-up every day in the hot GA summer heat on 93 octane pump gas with my timing at 20 degrees or so.

It's mated to a custom hybrid tranny I also built myself.

It consists of 88-91 Si case, 4.25 final drive, differential (allows for use of unqual stock axles) with ZC 1-4 gears - ultra short for SOHC

Here's some pics of some REAL stock piston domes!

In my block:

All the O.E Honda/Acura parts together before assembly:

Here's O.E Honda main bearings - note the different pretty colors - no stanrd sized one size fits all bullshit!

Okay so you have a SOHC VTEC and you want higher CR? I don't suggest using the P29 slugs that I run because the VTEC heads' combustion chambers are smaller, thusd the CR raises up from my 11:1 or so up to and beyond 12:1 easily - especially with the smallest cc combustion chamber's Y8 heads.

Solution?

86-87 Integra PM7 pistons!

Note the baby domes on the PM7 compared to the big-*** domes on the P29:

For those seeking SOHC info, you can also check out my old SOHC build topic with links to CR calculators, DYI port and polish work on SOHC heads, AWESOME cam info from Wil at Exospeed, what pistons/rods to run in 1.5L blocks, etc:

https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=401854&page=1

BTW:

The D16A6 has yet to hit a dyno, but it does pull damn hard for what it is in my 2150lb. or more 1990 STD hatch with full interior, full A/C, etc. This engine in this heavy-*** bitch will probably hit high 14's - seriously. I already outran our B16A2 1992 Si hatchback with my fiancee' (good driver) when we had a fun run or two.

Drop a nicely done SOHC into an even lighter 1992-1995 base model hatch and you can have a lot of fun for cheap.

Oh I almost forgot. The B16A2 will be cringing in fear if I ever get this head on my A6 build along with a good cam:

Puerto Rican headwork for free from a co-worker. That's what boredom and a drimmel set gets you when you're slow at work!

The head needs two valveseats.

I've got some D15 10.5:1 SRP pistons on shot peened and polished rods with about 1000 miles on them for sale with. All you need are rings. I used a compression calculator and the information off of the JE website and calculated the compression ratio for a Y8 to be about 11.5:1 without milling anything off of the head. Let me know if you are interested.

PS: I'm asking 360 for them + shipping

I also have some brand new in the box Crower Valve Springs and retainers for sale for 270 + shipping

Let me know.

how safe is a 11.5 compration ratio on 93 octane and no headwork? plus is incredibly humid down here in florida.

11.5:1CR itself isn't too much of a problem, but you must make sure your a/f ratios are dead on. People run as high as 12.5:1CR, but they almost always run forged pistons, which can take more heat than cast OEM pieces.

My CR is definately around 11:1 and again my car doesn't ping even in humid GA summer heat.

I must say that 11.5:1CR and the nitrous is asking for trouble though. In order to have the nitrous working effectively with that amount of CR you'll need an assload of fuel - you must be planning on a wet kit, right? If not then you'll either be running toorich off the ntrous or you'll be blowing your engine on the nitrous.

yea, really 11.5 is a little high for what I want to use on the car. i would ideally want around a 11/1 c.r or even better, 10.5/1. i guess the only way to get that done would be milling the head.

Try using 86-87 Integra pistons. They are not dished, but they do have a minimal dome on them. I believe their dome is only +1.3cc.

whats the code for those pistons? itll make it easier for me to search for em, although I don't think I'll have the cash for working on the bottom end like i'd like to this summer.
