i found this really old thread and i was wondering the same thing, except that im getting a rs*r exmag.
am i suppose to get a gsr or civic catback, or am i suppose to get custom made pipes with a civic rsr muffler? (btw im about to get some jdm dc header also.) so i don't know how to figure out the piping and junk.
any input would be great. this has been on my mind for a while.

since the jdm dc header exhaust manifold sticks out longer than the stock gsr, wouldn't there be fitment issues if i ordered a catback for a civic?

yeah order the civic catback. you might have to extend the exhaust alittle or just run a test pipe like i did. i have a jdm itr header with a apex-i worldsport catback on my eg hatch.
the integra exhaust is i belive either too long or too short. you would have to cut it to make it fit.

is there anything wrong with custom piping? is it the same as just getting a civic catback.
i was thinking jdm dc header, carsound cat, and some 2.5" custom piping to the rsr exhaust. would that work just as well as the civic cat back?
btw, hows the ground clearance for ur jdm itr?

custom piping is gonna be the same as a catback as long as the piping is not cruch bent i'll be good. and with the exmag it'll be nice and quiet.
the ground clearence on the itr header is good but it depends on how low you have your car.

Custom piping would just tend to rust faster than not, but if it's just clamped, it can always be redone easily and cheaply.
Putting my Apex'i WS2 on my 94 cx hb w/B18B1 was a *major* pain in the ***. I got the 92-95 hatch kit, but the cat was 2" to the side of where the midpipe was...damn d15 cats are offset from the center of the exhaust tunnel. Had *no* time to mod it, got to work late, draggin the back of the resonator on *every* measureable bump (although it sounded like a supra), then got a mild steel section spliced in to straighten it out. FYI it had the LS exhaust welded to fit...when I say complete swap, I mean complete...
IMO the Apex'i fitment is for ****, I had to bend all the hangers, and I still fear the rear smashing the fuel line into the rear frame. I'm not a believer in perfect fits, but I wasn't in the mood... Perfect sound for me, though.

my current piping is custom and ive had it for a few years now; no rust watsoever, so im not too worried about that. i believe it when u say its a pain in the *** to do all this **** tho.

"Custom" exhuast dosen't rust out as soon as what people think. My uncle has a shop and they do exhaust work. They guarantee it for as as long as you own the car. Can't beat that. They have only redone a FEW. I've seen it be fine for well over 7 years. It cost about half of a catback. A 10ft piece of 2.25 for exmaple cost around $10 to a shop and they bend it and weld it on for like $100-150. Thats a fraction of the pre-made systems. So what it's crush bent ? Your not driving a race car your driving a Honda. It crushes a little in the bends not enough to really notice, i doubt anyone would know if a system mandrel or crush bent just by driving if the piping was the same size.
