help! remove rear hatch glass
i'm getting my car repainted this week, and i'd like to have the rear windows removed so we get the best paint job
can i do it myself? or am i stuck with paying an autoglass shop to do it?
[edit] i'm referring to the fixed rear side windows, not the rear hatch glass

Re: help! remove rear hatch glass (biela)
It's easy... I've done it once a long time ago on an EF. I'm having trouble remembering exactly how they're held on there, but I know it involves removing a couple of phillips head screws that you have to open the doors to access. They're in the door jamb where the side of the glass is.

Why are you going to take out the glass? Just take out the rubber siding around the window and mask it off. Not hard at all. Then get new rubber siding.

i dont really think that removing the rear windshield would be needed....it really depends on the skill level of the painter whether you need to remove the trim. there is this special blue masking tape that will be needed. it is sometimes known as 3M 2090. it comes in a huge variety of widths. the cool stuff about this tape is that it's pretty absorbant with a seal on the stickyside. so there's no worries about the paint bubbling, or bleeding through.
also....if you r worried about the windshield too..you might wanna drop the motor so you can paint the engine bay. it sounds like a pain but in the long run it's really worth it.
good luck

Re: help! remove rear hatch glass (CycloneBlue_1.6EL)
I typed up something on how to do it way back when. Damn if I'm searching through the archvies for it.
EDIT: I actually did start searching. It wasn't a thread I created. It was a reply to a thread about removing some kind of glass and I didn't even get the thing they were talking about. I can't find it and give up.
